Chapter 178 Too Late
Lucy figured a little liquid courage might help.

Maybe after a few drinks, she’d finally have the nerve to talk to Julian and convince him to reconsider this whole marriage situation.
Instead, she got drunk before she even got the chance.
Zeke rubbed his temples, already regretting everything.
Julian, on the other hand, seemed off in a completely different way. Just like the other day, the moment he sat down, he started drinking, and no matter what anyone asked him, he didn’t respond.
Clara sat quietly beside him the whole time, composed and elegant, and together they looked, at least on the surface, like they belonged side by side.
Lucy was the first to go.
What she didn’t know was that Clara had already had someone switch her drink.
Her head felt heavy, her thoughts blurry, when her phone rang.
She picked up.
“Lucy, when are you coming back?” Quinn asked.
The moment she heard Quinn’s voice, all the frustration hit at once. “Quinn… I’m drunk. I feel awful…”
Quinn had originally planned to ask her something else, but her tone shifted immediately. “Where are you? Are you alone? Is Julian with you?”
Lucy glanced to the side, then let out a small huff. “Julian? He’s busy being all cozy with his fiancée. Like he has time to care about me.”
“Can you walk?” Quinn asked quickly. “If you come outside, I’ll come pick you up, okay?”
“I wanna go home…” Lucy mumbled, her voice soft and unsteady.
Zeke reached over, took the phone from her hand, and brought it to his ear. “Quinn?”
“Yes,” Quinn said, then after a brief pause, “Zeke?”
“Yeah. Took my eyes off her for a second and she went all in,” Zeke said. “If you can come get her, that’d be great. Otherwise I’ll have someone drive her home.”
“I’ll come,” Quinn said. Then she added, “Could you bring her out to the front?”
“Sure.”
Zeke gave her the address, then handed the phone back to Lucy.

Lucy looked at him with unfocused eyes.
“Alright, that’s enough for you,” Zeke said. “Your best friend’s coming to get you.”
No one noticed Julian’s fingers tighten slightly around his glass.
Quinn was already on edge.
Even knowing Julian was there didn’t reassure her.
If Clara was there too, things could get messy. They clearly didn’t get along.

And places like that… sure, they were exclusive, but that didn’t mean everyone inside had good intentions.
Alcohol, smoke, bad decisions… anything could happen.
And if something did happen, it would hit a girl like Lucy the hardest.
Quinn rushed over to the club.
From the outside, it looked understated, almost old–money in style, quiet and restrained.
But inside, she knew, it was all excess and indulgence.
This was where the city’s elite crowd gathered, and the people behind it had serious influence.
For Quinn, it felt like a completely different world.
If not for Lucy, she would probably never have stepped foot anywhere near this place.
And even now, she had no intention of going inside.
Partly because she didn’t want to see Julian.
Lucy had said he was inside with his fiancée, acting like they were already a couple.
Earlier that day, he had walked away from Quinn with a dark expression after everything she said.
She had thought, at the very least, there was some level of respect between them.
Turns out, he already had someone else.
So what were those things he said to her? What did any of that mean?
Nothing. It didn’t mean anything.
And beyond that, she probably wouldn’t even be allowed in. So she asked Zeke to bring Lucy out.
She hadn’t been waiting long when she saw Zeke coming out, half–supporting Lucy.
Quinn hurried over. “Lucy!”
“She’s fine,” Zeke said. “Just drank too fast. Get some fruit tea in her, let her sleep it off, she’ll be okay.”

“Thank you.” Quinn said, quickly taking Lucy from him. “I’ll take her home.”
“Hey, Lucy’s like a little sister to me,” Zeke said with a grin. “No need to be formal. Next time, you should come hang out too.”
“Sure.” Quinn said, distracted. “Goodnight, Zeke.”
She had just helped Lucy down the steps when a Maybach rolled up slowly and stopped in front of them.
Zeke followed and opened the car door. “Hop in.”
Quinn hesitated. “Is this your car?”
Zeke laughed. “I wish. Not sure the actual owner would be too happy about that.”
He bent down slightly and looked inside. “Hey, you mind gifting me this car?”
Julian shot him a cold glance.
Zeke straightened and shrugged. “See? Definitely not mine.”
Quinn had already seen him.
Julian sat in the back seat, his face obscured by shadow, unreadable.
But the tension around him was unmistakable.
Why is this Julian’s car…?
