Chapter 188 What Happened Last Night

She lowered her voice, but the frustration was still there. “Julian, you can’t treat Quinn like that.”
Julian looked at her, calm as ever. “What exactly do you think I could’ve done in a car?”
Lucy answered without thinking. “You’d be surprised what people manage to do in a car…”
She stopped herself mid–sentence and clapped a hand over her mouth.
Why would she say that out loud?
Julian’s expression darkened. “You seem very informed.”
“No, I’m not,” Lucy said quickly. “It’s late. Quinn and I are heading back.”
She turned immediately. “Quinn?”
Quinn was barely awake, her head heavy, eyes unfocused. “Hm… Lucy?”
“I’ve got you.” Lucy said, leaning in.
Quinn looked up at her, and the second she recognized her, her whole face lit up. “Lucy!”
Julian watched that smile and felt something tighten in his chest.
She had never smiled at him like that. Not once.
And then Quinn reached for Lucy without hesitation, like nothing else mattered.
Like everything that just happened meant nothing.
Julian let go. There was no way he was stopping her in front of everyone.
Lucy helped Quinn out of the car, but the moment her feet hit the ground, her knees gave out.
Lucy barely caught her.
“Okay, we’re leaving,” she said quickly. “Drive safe.”
She shut the door immediately.
Then, like she was sneaking someone past security, she half–carried Quinn all the way upstairs and got her onto the couch.
Only then did she notice.
“Quinn…” Lucy leaned closer, eyes widening. “What is going on with your lips? Did you have some kind of reaction?”
They were swollen, flushed, soft–looking in a way that was… noticeable.

Pretty, even.
But definitely not normal. Quinn let out a soft, dazed laugh and touched her lips.
“Mmm… jerk…” she mumbled vaguely before drifting off.
Lucy froze.
That wasn’t a reaction. That was from kissing from Julian.
She stared at Quinn, completely stunned.

Seriously? That cold, distant, always–in–control man? And this is what he’s like? Look at what he did. Unbelievable. Men are all the same. Every single one.
She made up her mind right then.
When Quinn woke up, she was going to have a serious talk with her.
No exceptions.
Quinn didn’t fully wake up until late the next morning.
The drinks hadn’t seemed strong at the time, but the aftereffects hit hard.
Her head felt heavy, her throat dry.
After getting cleaned up, she walked out and saw Lucy sprawled on the couch, eating ice cream like it was the middle of summer.
The apartment was warm enough that it didn’t matter what season it was.
Quinn’s throat felt rough. “Lucy, I want some.”
Lucy looked over immediately. “You’re finally awake. So, what exactly happened between you and Julian last night?”
She stood up and grabbed another container from the freezer.
Quinn took it. “Thanks. Wait, what did you say? Julian?”
“You don’t remember?” Lucy asked. “He was the one who brought you back.”
Quinn paused.
Lucy narrowed her eyes. “You’re serious? You actually don’t remember?”
“I don’t think so.” Quinn shook her head. “I drank too much, I guess. Did I pass out?“
“Pretty much.” Lucy studied her. “You don’t remember anything at all? You usually don’t black out.”
“I don’t know.” Quinn took a bite of ice cream, closing her eyes slightly as the cold soothed her throat. “Nothing’s coming back right now.”

Then she suddenly looked up. “Wait, you said Julian brought us back? Why was he there?” Lucy hesitated for half a second. “He just happened to be nearby. It was random.”
“Oh.” Quinn didn’t push further. Clearly, she didn’t want to go there. “This is really good.”
Lucy perked up instantly. “Right? There are a bunch of flavors. I know you love strawberry, but you should try the others too.”
Quinn finished one quickly, still not satisfied.
Lucy’s gaze drifted back to her lips.
And just like that, everything from last night replayed in her head.
