Ditched the Cheater, Pregnant by Mr. Righ novel Chapter 189

189 What She Didn’t Say

Lucy kept turning it over in her head.

If Quinn really didn’t remember what happened last night, should she bring it up, or just let it go?

If she said something, it would only make things awkward, maybe even hurt Quinn.

Flushed

But if she said nothing, was she really supposed to just let Julian get away with it like nothing happened?

She glanced at Quinn again.

Quinn looked completely at ease, even a little cheerful, like yesterday had been just another normal night.

Lucy let out a quiet breath.

Yeahbetter to leave it alone.

Bringing it up wouldn’t fix anything, it would just give Quinn something new to stress over.

Luckily, Quinn didn’t ask about it either.

If she had, Lucy honestly had no idea how she would have talked her way out of it.

After a moment, Lucy picked up her phone and texted Julian.

If something like this ever came back up later, she needed to make sure they were on the same page.

Lucy sent a message, Julian, Quinn doesn’t remember anything from last night. Let’s just pretend it never happened, okay? She’s my best friend, so please be respectful about this.

Julian read the message, and his expression immediately hardened.

Didn’t remember?

Last night she had been all over him, hands everywhere, sitting on his lap, kissing him like she meant it, and now it was justerased?

Was she actually out of it, or was she choosing not to acknowledge it?

If she didn’t want to take responsibility, that was one thing.

But pretending nothing happened at all?

That irritated him more than it should have.

He had been waiting for Quinn to reach out. Instead, this was what he got. And it wasn’t even from her.

He didn’t believe it. There was no way she remembered nothing.

Very few things ever got under his skin.

Quinn was the exception.

He didn’t reply. He wasn’t in the mood.

Fished

Lucy was used to that, so she tossed her phone aside and looked up just in time to see Quinn grabbing another pint of ice cream.

Quinn, you haven’t even had real food yet,Lucy said. Don’t go overboard, you’re gonna regret it.”

I’ll stop after this one.Quinn said, already opening it. I’m not really hungry. I’ll just eat later.”

Lucy thought for a second, then said, Okay, what if we do something fun for lunch, like a fondue setup or one of those tabletop grills? Kinda like a DIY thing. You in? I’ll order everything.”

Quinn perked up immediately. Yes, that sounds amazing. I’m in.

Lucy started scrolling through a grocery app, adding things to her cart while talking. Quinn, after your divorceyou are going to date again, right?

She couldn’t let it

After everything that almost happened between Quinn and Julian, acting like nothing would ever happen again felt unrealistic.

And honestly, she still thought Julian was a great match.

Quinn wouldn’t be the one losing out.

I’m not thinking about that right now,” Quinn said. Once the competition’s over, I’m heading back to school.

Lucy frowned. Why not? I get that what happened with Chase messed you up, but not every guy is like him.

Quinn was quiet for a moment, then spoke slowly.

You know how sometimes you get a random warm stretch in late winter, and flowers start blooming like it’s already spring?

Lucy nodded. Yeah, that happens all the time. What about it?

They think it’s safe. Like winter’s over. But it’s not. The cold comes back, and they’re not ready for it.Quinn paused slightly. People are like that too. Someone treats them a little better than usual, and they mistake it for something real. And thenthey end up getting hurt.

Lucy thought about it, then shook her head. I don’t think that’s the whole story. Those early blooms aren’t as fragile as you think. Even if the cold hits again, most of them don’t just die off. They recover when things warm up for real.

Quinn gave a small smile. Some don’t.

She didn’t linger on it. Anyway, did you add meatballs? The beef ones?

Finished

Lucy immediately turned her phone toward her. Of course. Everything we like is in here.”

Quinn smiled, eyes soft. Love you.

Lucy smiled back, but her chest tightened.

How much did it take for her to start seeing herself as something that doesn’t make it through the season?

Spring, for most people, meant fresh starts.

For Quinn, it clearly meant something else entirely. So Lucy decided she’d just take better care of her, in small ways, however she could.

Once everything arrived, they set up their little athome setup and started cooking.

Lucy kept adding food to Quinn’s plate without asking.

By the time they finished, both of them were completely stuffed.

They collapsed onto the couch, holding their stomachs, looking at each other before breaking into laughter.

But after a while, Quinn’s expression shifted.

Lucymy stomach kind of hurts.

She got up quickly and headed for the bathroom.

Lucy was still laughing. Hey, slow down, don’t trip.

About ten minutes later, Quinn came out. Her face had gone pale.

Lucy sat up immediately. What’s wrong? Still hurting?

A little,Quinn said, pressing a hand to her lower abdomen. And I feel kinda nauseous.

Lucy’s expression changed instantly. Okay, no, we’re not guessing. We’re going to the ER.

It’s really not that serious,Quinn said, shaking her head. I just had ice cream and then hot food right after. My stomach’s probably just reacting. I’ll be fine if I rest.

Lucy still looked uneasy. If it gets worse or anything feels off, you tell me right away. Promise me.
