Chapter 202 Stay
Finished
Quinn did not argue this time, she simply lowered her gaze, and the faint flush at the edge of her ears gave her away more than any words could have.
Julian dipped a cotton swab in water and carefully brushed it across her lips, his movements unhurried and precise, and only after he finished did she speak again.
“Why are you still up? It’s really late.”
Julian leaned back slightly, his tone easy. “I’m fine, I’m not tired.”
It was an obvious lie, and both of them knew it.
“I’m okay,” Quinn said quietly, even though the pain had been what woke her in the first place. “You should get some rest.”
Julian looked at her for a moment, then said with a faint smile, “Are you worried about me?”
Quinn turned her face away, her voice softer now. “Can you just talk normally?”
“I am talking normally,” Julian replied, the amusement still there but less teasing this time. “You’re concerned about me, I’m allowed to appreciate that.”
“Just go get some sleep,” Quinn said, and this time there was no denial behind it, because she meant it.
No one had ever stayed up for her like this.
Not when she had a fever, not when she had been sick before.
No one had ever sat beside her through the night just to make sure she was okay.
She remembered being in high school, missing an exam because she had a fever, and the only thing Elaine cared about was the test she did not take.
That kind of indifference had been normal for her.
This was not.
This felt different.
Her eyes stung suddenly, and she opened them wider, forcing the tears back before they could fall.
She refused to let him see that.
Julian noticed the shift in her expression, but the dim lighting made it hard to read clearly.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he asked again, more serious now. “If something hurts, you need to tell me.”
Quinn hesitated before admitting, “The incision hurts a little.”
Julian straightened immediately. “I’ll call the doctor.”

Firished
Quinn stopped him. “Isn’t that a bit much? It’s the middle of the night.”
Julian looked at her, his tone firm in a way that left no room for argument. “This is your body, nothing matters more than that, so don’t worry about whether it’s inconvenient.”
He stepped out and called the doctor without waiting for her to respond.
After a quick check, the doctor confirmed everything was normal and set her up with a pain pump to help manage the discomfort.
Once they left, Quinn looked at him again. “It’s really late. You should go rest. I’ll call you if I need anything.”
Julian let out a quiet breath, then said with a small smile, “You’d actually call me? I don’t believe that.”
Quinn frowned slightly. “You’re impossible.”
Then, after a pause, she added, “If you don’t sleep, you’ll age faster, and you’re already five years older than me.”,
Julian raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “Five years makes me old now?”
He leaned back slightly. “One night isn’t going to do anything.”
Quinn did not know how to argue with that.
Julian looked at her, his tone shifting again, lighter but deliberate. “Besides, that’s something my girlfriend should be worried about, not you. Are you planning to take that job?”
Quinn closed her eyes immediately. “Do whatever you want.”
Julian laughed softly, then reached over and brushed the loose strands of hair away from her face with a gentleness that did not match the teasing tone from earlier.
“Go to sleep,” he said quietly. “I’ll stay here. If I get tired, I’ll rest.”
The medication began to work quickly, easing the tension in her body, and not long after, Quinn drifted back into sleep.
When she woke again, daylight had already filled the room.
Julian was still sitting beside her.
There was no obvious sign of whether he had slept at all.
“Did you sleep?” she asked.
Julian answered easily, “A couple of hours.”
Quinn looked at him, concern slipping through despite herself. “Don’t you have work? You should go rest,
caregiver can stay with me.”

Julian frowned slightly. “Who said I’m going to work?”
Finished
He looked at her, his voice calm but certain. “You just had surgery. Nothing I have to do is more important
than that.”
The words were simple, but they landed harder than she expected.
Her heart skipped.
For a moment, the idea of being with him felt dangerously real.
But just as quickly, reality caught up.
Thoughts of her marriage, her family, and everything she could not simply walk away from quickly caught up with her.
The warmth faded.
Someone like Julian would never choose someone like her.
Even if no one said it out loud, people would talk.
They always did.
“What are you thinking about?” Julian asked, noticing the shift. “Don’t overthink it. Right now, your only job is to get better. Everything else can wait.”
“I know,” Quinn said softly. “But you should take care of yourself too. Let the caregiver stay with me and go get some rest.”
Julian considered it, then nodded. “Alright. Call me if you need anything.”
He called the caregiver in, gave a few instructions, and finally left.
He planned to go home, shower, eat something, and come back.
Quinn still could not eat, and he was not about to sit there eating in front of her.
Not long after he left, Lucy showed up.
She had been worried all night, even if she had not said it out loud.
And while she did not dare question Julian directly, she knew one thing for sure.
At least while Quinn was like this, Julian would not cross any lines.
