Chapter 205 Crossing Lines

Quinn instinctively tried to pull her foot back the second she felt his touch, but Julian glanced up at her and said, calm and steady, “Don’t move,” and before she could react, his hand had already closed around her foot, holding it gently.
By the time the doctor walked in, that was exactly the scene he saw, Julian sitting at the foot of the bed, completely at ease, holding her foot under the blanket like he had done it a hundred times before.
The doctor paused for a second, then smiled, clearly amused. “You know, they do make heating pads for this kind of thing. You don’t have to go all out like this.”
Julian didn’t even look embarrassed. “This works better.”
The doctor nodded, still smiling as he started the examination. “Honestly, you’re not wrong. Heating pads can overheat if you’re not careful, so this is actually safer.”
He went through the routine checkup, asked a few questions, and after making sure everything looked fine, he gave a few reminders about recovery, telling Quinn to take it slow when getting out of bed, but also to move around more to help with digestion and healing.
Once the doctor left, Julian looked back at her, his tone carrying a hint of satisfaction. “See, even he thinks this is a good idea.”
Quinn had completely run out of things to say.
She had thought that at the very least, when the doctor walked in, Julian would let go, if only out of basic social awareness, but he hadn’t even hesitated, as if none of it felt inappropriate to him.
If it were anyone else, maybe it would not have felt like such a big deal.
But this was Julian.
Someone like him lowering himself into something so personal, so attentive, made it impossible to ignore.
“Quinn.”
She looked over when she heard her name, already bracing herself, because she had figured out by now that whenever he used her name, it usually meant he had noticed something.
“What were you thinking about?” he asked, his gaze steady. “I’m talking to you and you’re somewhere else.”
Quinn quickly shook her head. “I wasn’t zoning out, I just… I was thinking that after everything you’ve done for me, I don’t even know how I’m supposed to make it up to you.”
Julian let out a quiet laugh, his hand still resting lightly around her ankle. “You’re definitely making it up to me. I’m not doing all this for nothing.”
Quinn hesitated for a moment, then asked, “What do you want, Mr. Sterling?”
Julian raised a brow, clearly entertained. “And just like that, we’re back to being formal. What did you just

call me?”
Finished:
Quinn pressed her lips together and said nothing, because she knew exactly what he was doing and had no intention of playing along.
Seeing her refuse to respond, Julian lightly pressed his fingers against her foot again, not enough to hurt, just enough to make her react.
Quinn immediately frowned. “If you’re warming it, then just warm it. Stop messing with it.”
Julian looked genuinely wronged. “Messing with it? That’s what you call that?”
As he spoke, he pulled his hand out from under the blanket, leaned forward slightly, and reached out to pinch her cheek, holding it for a brief second before letting go.
“This,” he said calmly, “is what messing with you looks like.”
Quinn froze, then stared at him in disbelief. “You just touched my face with the same hand you were holding my foot with?”
Julian couldn’t hold back a laugh this time. “It’s your foot. Why are you acting like it’s something dirty?”
Quinn was the kind of person who paid attention to details like that, and like most people, she had a natural instinct to separate what felt clean from what did not, so the idea of him casually switching from her foot to her face was something she absolutely could not accept.
Seeing her puff up in frustration, Julian found it unexpectedly endearing.
Over the past couple of days, being around her had stirred more emotion in him than he had felt in years, and he had lost count of how many times she had made him laugh without even trying.
A man who was usually composed, controlled, and distant found himself relaxing around her in ways that surprised even him.
And Quinn, without realizing it, had already started to accept that closeness, her reactions softer, her tone less guarded, even the way she argued with him carrying a trace of something almost playful.
Julian noticed all of it.
And he wanted more.
Right then, her phone rang.
Julian picked it up, glanced at the screen, then handed it to her, his expression unreadable.
It was an unknown number.
Quinn hesitated for a second, then answered, mostly because she needed something to break the moment.
The second the call connected, Chase’s voice came through.
“Quinn, I’ve decided. I’ll go through with the divorce.”

She blinked, caught off guard. “You’re agreeing to it?”

Chase let out a cold laugh. “You move fast, I’ll give you that. I was wondering why you were pushing so hard, but now it makes sense. You’ve already lined someone up, haven’t you? Not bad.”
Quinn’s gaze shifted instinctively toward Julian.
She should have been able to deny it immediately.
But something in her chest tightened instead.
She had not crossed any physical boundaries.
But she had feelings.
And to her, that was already something she could not fully justify.
I shouldn’t have let this happen. Not before everything is over.
That was why she had tried to keep her distance before, because she knew exactly how dangerous it was to get close to someone like him.
Now, hearing Chase frame it like this, even if the divorce was finally moving forward, it made everything feel messy and humiliating.
Quinn steadied herself. “If you’re agreeing, then I’ll withdraw the lawsuit.”
Chase’s voice turned sharp. “You accused me of crossing the line, said I had no morals, and now look at you. Chasing status, attaching yourself to someone with power. And that guy isn’t any better, going after a married woman like that, he’s just as shameless.”
“Enough,” Quinn cut in, her tone firm and cold.
“Since you’ve agreed, we’ll set a time and finalize everything.”
