Chapter 212 No More Running
She was clearly afraid of him.
Even though he couldn’t understand why.
He had been patient, careful, and as considerate as he knew how to be.
Lucy being a little intimidated by him made sense.
But Quinn?
What did she think he was going to do to her?
He respected her boundaries, kept his distance when it mattered, and treated her with nothing but restraint.
And still, she reacted like this.

What made even less sense was that she could be this nervous around him and still say things that bold to his face.
At this point, even he couldn’t tell whether she was actually afraid of him or not.
“If I tell you what I want,” Julian said, stepping forward again until she was fully within his space, “are you going to go along with it?”
Quinn could feel it instantly.
He was closer now, close enough that the space between them was almost gone.
Every small breath she took made her painfully aware of just how little distance there was left.
She held her breath and pressed herself back against the door.
Julian leaned down slightly, his voice low near her ear. “Quinn, answer me.”
He lifted his arm and braced it beside her, effectively boxing her in.
With his height, his presence, and the way he looked down at her, the pressure was overwhelming.
Her heart pounded so hard it felt like it might give her away.
If he moved even a little closer, their lips would meet.
Without thinking, she raised her hands and pressed them against his chest, trying to create even the smallest bit of distance.
Julian glanced down at her hands, then back at her face, his voice carrying a trace of amusement. “You already got a feel for my abs, now you’re moving on to my chest too?” He leaned forward just slightly, pressing into her palms. “So, what do you think?”

Quinn reacted like she had touched something burning hot, immediately trying to pull her hands away. Julian caught her wrist before she could. “What, you just touch and then pretend it didn’t happen?”
“That’s not what I was doing,” Quinn said, her voice low but tense. “If you weren’t standing this close, I wouldn’t have even touched you. That wasn’t on purpose.”
Julian studied her flushed face, the way she refused to look at him, and had to hold himself back.
“Then answer me honestly,” he said. “Do you want to?”
“No,” Quinn said immediately, her teeth clenched. “Now move.”
“Aren’t we figuring out how you’re going to make it up to me?” Julian replied calmly. “If I move, how are you planning to do that, or are you going to take the lead?”
Take the lead?
The thought alone made her face heat up instantly.
There’s no way. Absolutely no way.
“Wait,” Quinn said quickly. “We need to be clear first. What counts as making it up? Don’t let me do something and then turn around and say I crossed a line.”
Julian let out a quiet laugh. “You think just hugging me is enough?”
He paused, then added, “Or do you want me to remind you exactly what you did that night?”
Quinn wished she could just deny everything and be done with it.
But Julian had already taken out his phone.
After tapping the screen, a recording started playing.
Her own voice came through first.
“You’re… Julian. Yeah, Julian!”
Then his.

“So you do know my name. I thought you were going to stick with ‘Mr. Sterling.”
Then her again, light and playful.
“Julian… Julian, you’re such a jerk.”
And then it repeated, like it was stuck on loop.
“Julian, you’re such a jerk. Jerk. Total jerk.”
Quinn froze completely, her eyes going wide. Before she could think, she reached for his phone.

Julian simply lifted his hand, effortlessly keeping it out of her reach.
“What is that?” Quinn said, her face burning. “Delete it. Right now.”

“There’s more,” Julian said calmly. “Audio, video, all of it. You touching my throat, my abs. Want to see?” “How do you even have that?” Quinn was flustered, embarrassed, and furious all at once. “Julian, delete it.” “Dash cam,” Julian said. “I saved a copy in case you tried to pretend it never happened.”
Quinn’s memory of that night was scattered at best.
She remembered bits and pieces, sometimes in dreams, but never clearly.
And there was a huge difference between vaguely remembering something and hearing it played back like this.
Just imagining it was already bad enough.
Hearing it made it unbearable.
Her
eyes started to sting. “Delete it… please.”
“So you admit it?”
“I admit it,” Quinn said quickly, her voice trembling. “I admit everything.”
Julian watched her for a moment. “I’ll delete it.”
Quinn leaned forward slightly. “Really?”
“There’s a condition.”
“This is my video,” Quinn said, trying to push back again. “I have the right to ask you to delete it.”
“What, you’re going to take me to court?”
Her tone softened instantly. “Please… why would you even keep something like that?”
Julian’s voice dropped, quieter now. “Because it meant something.”
There was something in the way he said it that made her chest tighten.
Her face grew warm again. “It didn’t…”
“It did,” Julian said, looking straight at her. “Just look at how you act around me now, and then compare that to how you were in that video.”
