Chapter 216 Stay
* Finished
Quinn heard Julian let out a quiet sigh, and before she could react, his arm came around her and pulled her gently but firmly against him.
“What am I supposed to do with you?” he said, his voice low and close to her ear, warm enough to make her chest tighten without warning.
She tried to push him away, but the moment she lifted her hand, she realized she didn’t have the strength, not really, and the resistance she meant to show came out weak and unconvincing.
“You really don’t want to come with me?” Julian asked, his tone softer now, almost patient, like he was giving her one more chance to say it clearly.
Quinn didn’t answer.
Julian let out another breath, slower this time. “I’m not going to do anything to you, so what exactly are you worried about?”
Quinn instinctively glanced toward the front of the car, where the driver and security were still there, then turned back and shot him a look, her eyes still wet, the corners flushed from crying.
That look was supposed to be sharp, maybe even warning, but it landed somewhere completely different, carrying a trace of complaint instead.
Julian’s gaze lingered on her for a second, then he reached up and pressed a button, and the partition slid up smoothly, sealing off the back seat into a quiet, private space.
Only then did Quinn speak again, her voice still uneven. “I already told you, I’m not going.”
Julian didn’t raise his voice or rush his words, he just looked at her steadily and said, “A hotel isn’t practical for you right now. I don’t care what your life looked like before, if you’re with me, then I’m going to make sure you’re taken care of properly.”
Quinn frowned slightly, her voice softer but still firm. “But I’m not always going to be with you. I still have my own life to go back to.”
Julian didn’t hesitate. “You could stay.”
Quinn looked up at him immediately.
There was something in his eyes she couldn’t quite read, something deeper than what he was saying out loud, and for a moment she couldn’t tell if he meant it casually or if there was something else behind it.
He said things like that too easily.
Too naturally.
As if none of it cost him anything.
Quinn lowered her gaze, pressing down the swirl of emotions rising in her chest.

He says things like this all the time… does he even mean them…

The car had already turned around and was heading back, the city passing by outside the window in a blur that she barely noticed.
Julian had several places he could stay, but the one he used most was a high–rise apartment close to the company, a place that was convenient, quiet, and removed from everything unnecessary.
It also wasn’t far from where Lucy lived.
When they stepped inside, Quinn paused just past the doorway, unsure where to look or how to move, instincts telling her not to touch anything she didn’t understand.
The space was exactly what she expected, clean lines, black and white tones, everything precise and controlled, carrying the same restrained elegance Julian had..
But it also felt empty.
Too quiet.
Like no one actually lived there.
The security team stayed next door and left as soon as they made sure everything was settled, leaving the apartment completely still.
Julian closed the door behind them, then walked past her and crouched down without hesitation, pulling a pair of slippers from the side.
“I didn’t have time to get anything for you,” he said. “Just wear mine for now.”
Quinn hadn’t even processed what he was doing before his hand closed gently around her ankle.
“I can do it myself,” she said quickly, her voice tightening out of instinct.
But Julian had already taken off her shoes.
There was no pause, no second thought.
He had been doing this for days now, every time she got out of bed in the hospital, crouching down like this, helping her as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world.
And that was exactly what made it hard to accept.
Someone like him, someone who was always above everything and everyone, lowering himself like this in front of her without hesitation.
It didn’t feel like something she should get used to.
“These are going to be big.” Julian said, glancing at the slippers.
Big didn’t even begin to cover it.
Her feet slid inside them, leaving too much empty space behind her heel, making them look almost

oversized in a way that felt slightly ridiculous.
Julian adjusted the other one, then let out a quiet laugh. “Your feet are smaller than I thought.”
Heat crept up Quinn’s face again.
She didn’t answer.
“Go on,” Julian said, standing up and placing a light hand on her shoulder to guide her forward. “Sit wherever you want. I’ll take care of your things.”
“I can do that myself,” Quinn said, still trying to hold onto some sense of distance.
Julian tilted his head slightly, his tone calm but leaving no room for argument. “Just listen.”
He pulled out his phone, made a quick call, and said, “Send over a pair of women’s slippers.”
Then he slipped the phone away, picked up her bag, and started toward the bedroom.

Quinn followed after him, but the oversized slippers made every step awkward, forcing her to slow down more than she wanted.
Julian took a few steps, then suddenly stopped and turned back, extending his hand toward her without a word.
Quinn hesitated.
“Your hand,” Julian said, his tone steady. “You didn’t forget, did you?”
She hadn’t forgotten.
She just didn’t expect it to matter for something this small.
But she didn’t argue.
She placed her hand in his.
Julian closed his fingers around hers, waiting until she was standing next to him before continuing forward, adjusting his pace naturally so she wouldn’t have to rush to keep up.
He even notices something like this…
Quinn tried to match his steps anyway, but the more she focused on it, the more unnatural it felt.
Her foot slipped inside the oversized slipper, and before she could correct it, it slid right off completely.
“Wait-”
She stumbled, her balance giving out for a split second, and instinctively grabbed onto Julian’s arm to steady herself.
