Chapter 215 Turn Around

Lucy called just as Quinn was getting into the car, her voice coming through fast and uneven, like she had been running or talking to too many people at once.
“Quinn, where are you right now?” Lucy said, almost breathless. “There’s a fire downstairs, right outside my building. It’s a mess over here.”
Quinn went still, her mind blanking for a second. “A fire? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” Lucy replied quickly. “But don’t come back here, seriously, just stay somewhere else for now,”
Quinn hadn’t even figured out what to say when Julian spoke from beside her, calm and decisive, like the answer had already been settled.
“Then you’re coming with me.”
Hearing that she was finally being discharged had felt like a release, like something tight inside her had finally loosened.
The hospital itself had been uncomfortable, but what made it unbearable was something else entirely.
Being alone with Julian.
And the condition she had agreed to.
As long as he was there, as long as his hands were free, he would reach for her without hesitation and hold on like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Quinn had stopped looking at him altogether.
Her eyes would land anywhere but him, the ceiling, the window, the edge of the bed, anything that gave her somewhere to hide.
What made it worse was that he never let go, not even when doctors or caregivers walked in.
He didn’t adjust, didn’t explain, didn’t care.
He just kept holding her hand.
And every single time, the same thought pressed down on her.
I’m still married.
What does this even make me?
The morning before discharge, a caregiver came in early to draw blood.
Julian hadn’t left yet.
He sat beside her, one arm loosely around her shoulders, letting her lean into him like it was nothing.

When the caregiver tied the band around her arm, Julian said quietly, “She’s not great with needles, so if you can, go easy.
The caregiver smiled, clearly amused. “You two are really sweet together. Honestly, it’s kind of rare.” Quinn wished she could disappear on the spot.
She had always been afraid of needles, but this time the embarrassment drowned everything else out.
Leaning against him, breathing in that faint, clean scent that seemed to follow him everywhere, she barely even noticed when the needle went in.
By the time she left the hospital, it felt like half the staff had already decided what kind of relationship they had.
To Quinn, walking out of there felt less like discharge and more like escape.
And then Lucy’s call changed everything again.
Quinn turned to him immediately. “No, I’m not going.”
They were sitting side by side in the back seat, his hand still wrapped around hers like it belonged there.
He didn’t let go.
“If not my place,” he said, glancing at her briefly, “then where exactly are you planning to go?”
“I’ll book a hotel,” Quinn replied, holding onto the first answer she could think of.
Julian let out a quiet breath, not quite a laugh, more like disbelief. “You just got out of the hospital, and you think a hotel is a good idea?”
“I can rest anywhere,” she said. “Hotels have everything I need.”
“And what are you going to eat?” he asked, his tone still even, but sharper now.
“They have room service,” she replied.
“The doctor specifically told you to keep your meals light and balanced,” Julian said, looking at her now, “Do you really think hotel food is going to do that for you?”
Quinn frowned, refusing to back down. “You brought me food from restaurants the entire time I was in the hospital.”
Julian didn’t hesitate. “Do you know who made that food? Do you know he barely takes private requests anymore? You’re comparing that to a hotel kitchen?”
Quinn let out a breath, her voice tightening. “That’s your world, not mine. I live normally. I eat normal food. If I stay at a hotel and eat what they have, I’ll be fine.”
Julian looked at her for a moment, really looked this time.
Then, without another word, he let go of her hand.

The warmth disappeared so suddenly it almost startled her.
Her fingers curled slightly, like they didn’t know what to do without his.
Julian leaned back and said, “Take us to a hotel.”
The driver acknowledged immediately.
Quinn turned her face toward the window, but instead of relief, something heavy settled in her chest.
Why does this feel worse…
The car stopped at a red light, the soft clicking of the turn signal filling the quiet space.
Quinn blinked, and her vision blurred for a second.
She shifted closer to the window, pretending to look outside.
This doesn’t even make sense… why do I feel like this….
The light changed.
The car moved forward smoothly, but the slight motion made her body tilt just enough.
And in the next second, Julian reached over again.
His hand closed around hers, firm, steady, like it had never left.
Quinn turned to look at him.
Julian didn’t look back.
He sat straight, eyes forward, expression calm, as if nothing had happened.
But his grip tightened.
Then, slowly, deliberately, his fingers slid between hers, locking into place.
“Turn around,” he said.
Quinn’s breath caught, and she quickly looked away, her voice catching slightly as she spoke. “I said I don’t
want to go…
There was a soft shift as Julian moved closer, the space between them disappearing without warning.
“Are you crying?” he asked, his voice lower now, gentler.
That was all it took.
The tears she had been holding back broke free all at once.
