The memory hit all at once, and Quinn felt the heat rush straight to her face.
Finished
She should never have picked a movie in the first place, and of all the options, she somehow ended up with this.
And it hadn’t even been brief.
It had dragged on in a way that made everything worse.
For two people alone in a dark room, it was too much.
Especially when there was already history between them.
Even if she hadn’t been fully aware at the time, she remembered enough.
And Julian remembered everything.
Why did I even come here? Why am I still here?
Quinn stood up abruptly.
She couldn’t stay here any longer.
She stepped out of the media room into the brightly lit hallway, the contrast almost jarring, and when she didn’t see Julian, she walked a little farther before hearing the sound of running water coming from the bathroom.
He was in the shower.
The realization made her pause for a split second before she turned and headed straight for the bedroom.
If she moved quickly, she could leave before he came out.
She grabbed her bag and started packing, not neatly, not carefully, just fast, clothes folded halfway, toiletries tossed in, everything shoved together with one goal in mind.
Leave.
She slung the bag over her shoulder and headed out again.
The apartment was quiet now.
The water had stopped. That made her move faster.
She didn’t want to run into him. She almost made it.
“You heading out somewhere?”
His voice came from behind her, low and cool.
Chapter 222 Don’t Go
Quinn froze mid–step, her body going still before her mind caught up.
She didn’t turn around.
She didn’t dare.
Finished
This place was too big, the distance too long, and if this had been a normal apartment, she would have already been out the door.
Before she could react, the weight on her shoulder disappeared.
Julian had taken her bag.
She instinctively held onto the strap and turned, starting to speak. “I’m not-”
The rest of the sentence never came out.
Julian was standing there with nothing on but a towel wrapped low around his waist, his hair still damp, his shoulders broad and his build defined in a way that was impossible to ignore.
She had seen it before.
More than once.
She had even touched it.
But never like this.
Not when she was completely clear–headed.
Her grip loosened immediately, and she turned away as if she had seen something she wasn’t supposed to.
Julian watched her reaction, half amused, half irritated. “Now you won’t look?” he said. “You’ve seen it before.”
“Can you just put something on,” Quinn said, her voice unsteady despite her effort to sound composed.
“If I do, you’re gone,” Julian replied without hesitation.
He took a step closer. “Turn around.”
“No.”
Quinn forced herself to stay calm, even though her thoughts were anything but. “Julian, I’m sorry, but staying here doesn’t feel appropriate.”
“So instead of saying anything, you just leave without a word?” he asked.
“I wasn’t trying to-” She faltered, then gave up. “I’m sorry.”
“I’m not asking for an apology,” he said, his tone tightening. “Quinn, are you backing out again?”
“No,” she said quickly, then added, “but can you please get dressed first?”

Chapter 222 Don’t Go
Finished
Standing there with him behind her like this made it impossible to think straight.
Stop thinking about it. Just stop.
“So you can leave while I’m not looking?” he said.
“I’ll wait,” Quinn said immediately, raising her hand as if that made it more believable. “I mean it. I won’t go anywhere.”
“You haven’t exactly earned that kind of trust.”
Before she could respond, he moved.
One second she was standing there, the next she was off the ground.
Quinn let out a startled sound as he lifted her effortlessly, her body tilting as she was pulled against him.
Her face pressed against his chest, warm and solid, and her hands instinctively braced against him, palms landing directly against the firm lines of his torso.
Her heart skipped.
Her voice came out uneven. “What are you doing, put me down.”
Julian didn’t answer. He just carried her toward the bedroom.
With every step, her thoughts spiraled further.
“Julian, don’t do this,” she said, panic creeping in despite herself. “I’m serious, this isn’t okay, you can’t-”
He stopped all at once, the change in his expression subtle but unmistakable, as if something in her words had landed the wrong way and stayed there.
For a brief moment, he just looked at her, and the question settled in his mind whether she really thought he was about to cross a line, whether in her eyes he was the kind of man who would lose control like that, who had no restraint, no boundaries.
That realization hit harder than anything else, and layered on top of everything that had already been building, the tension from earlier, the film they had just watched, the memories he had no intention of revisiting, it pushed his patience right to the edge.
