“Then let’s not go through with the divorce,” he said quickly, reaching for her hand.

Quinn stepped back before he could touch her. “Excuse me?”

Chase smiled, convinced. “If you’ve forgiven me, that means you still care. We don’t have to end this. I’ll treat you right this time, I mean it.”

Quinn looked at him, disbelief clear in her eyes.

“I forgave you because it doesn’t matter anymore,” Quinn said, her tone calm but distant. “You don’t matter to me anymore. You’re just someone from my past, nothing more. Why would I waste energy holding onto anything?”

Chase’s expression faltered. “Quinn… you used to care about me.”

“That was then,” she said. “Let’s not drag this out.”
