Lucy had been nagged to the point where she couldn’t take it anymore, so in the end she gave in and agreed to drop the item off herself, thinking it would be quick and easy and not worth arguing over.

What she didn’t expect was that the moment she stepped out of the car in front of the company, her foot landed at the wrong angle, and before she could even steady herself, her ankle twisted sharply beneath her sending a sudden, piercing pain straight up her leg.

The pain hit so hard and so fast that she couldn’t even hold it in, and within seconds her eyes filled with tears as she stood there, completely unable to move.

She had never dealt with this kind of pain before.

Sniffling and barely holding it together, she called Julian, her voice already breaking, and not long after, he came down personally, took one look at her, and without wasting time brought her straight to the hospital.

The doctor examined her, stabilized the ankle, and told her clearly that she would need to keep it immobilized and rest properly for a while if she wanted it to heal well.

By the time Quinn arrived, Lucy’s ankle had already been wrapped and secured, and Julian was still there with her, standing close by.

The moment Lucy saw Quinn walk in, whatever composure she had left disappeared completely.

“Quinn,” Lucy said, her voice trembling as she reached out.

She had never been the kind of rich kid with attitude or bad habits, but she had still grown up protected and cared for, and she had never really had to endure physical pain like this before.

Now that she had, it overwhelmed her.

In front of Julian, she had been trying to hold back, but the second Quinn appeared, she gave up completely, wrapping her arms tightly around Quinn’s waist and refusing to let go, her face pressed against her as tears kept falling.

Quinn immediately held her, one hand on her back, gently soothing her. “Hey, you’re okay, it’s just a sprain, it’s going to calm down soon, I’ve got you.”

Lucy didn’t respond, just clung tighter, her face still buried against Quinn like that alone could make it

hurt less.

Off to the side, Julian watched the entire thing unfold, and although his expression didn’t change much, the longer it went on, the more obvious it became that he was not enjoying it.

At first, he assumed she would calm down after a moment.

She didn’t.

If anything, she seemed even less willing to let go.

That was where he drew the line.

“If it hurts that much, I can have them give you something for it,” Julian replied calmly, though there was a hint of impatience underneath. “But holding onto her like that isn’t going to fix anything.”

Lucy knew exactly what this was.

He wasn’t annoyed.

He was jealous.

He can’t even hide it, can he…

She almost rolled her eyes.

He couldn’t hold Quinn himself, so now no one else could either.

And the funniest part was, she had literally slept next to Quinn the night before.

If he knew that, he would probably lose his mind. Still, she kept that thought to herself.

She wasn’t about to invite trouble.

“Let’s go,” Julian said. “I’ll take you both back.”

Lucy was helped into a wheelchair, and just as Quinn stepped forward, ready to push, one of the bodyguards had already moved in and taken over, leaving her to walk alongside them instead.

Julian stayed close, within arm’s reach, but Quinn’s attention was entirely on Lucy, and she didn’t so much as glance in his direction.

When they reached the car, the wheelchair was folded away, and Lucy was settled into the back seat, her injured leg stretched across, taking up most of the space.

Quinn moved toward the front seat out of instinct, but before she could get there, one of the bodyguards had already taken it.

Lucy hesitated, then said, “Quinn, you can just take the other car.”

With Julian, there was always more than one car.

That was normal.

Quinn briefly considered just calling a ride for herself, but when she turned, she saw Julian standing by the next car, holding the door open for her, with several people nearby watching.

There wasn’t really a way to refuse without making it awkward.

So she stepped in quietly. “Thank you.”

“So this is how it is now?” Julian said finally, his tone light but edged with something else. “You’re just going to pretend I’m not here?”

Quinn’s heart tightened slightly.

Julian let out a quiet laugh. “That’s what you think I want? A polite hello?”
