Chapter 245 The Distance Between

She couldn’t make sense of it.
She had been clear, colder than she meant to be, distant in every way that should have made someone step back.
So why hadn’t he?
Was it really that simple, that the harder something was to get, the harder people tried?
The thought settled slowly, and once it did, it made too much sense.
Julian wasn’t someone who was used to losing.
He probably had never been rejected.
And now she was the first.
So now this is just something he wants to win…
She let out a quiet breath, the weight in her chest still there, unmoving.
She didn’t want anything to do with him.
But with Lucy injured, and Julian showing up every day to cook, there was no real way to avoid him
anymore.
Someone like him could have easily arranged for a private chef or had meals delivered without ever stepping foot there.
But he didn’t.
He came himself.
Quinn couldn’t say for sure it was because of her, but nothing about it felt normal.
She stayed in her room for over an hour before finally reaching for her phone.
Quinn sent a message: “Is he gone?”
Lucy replied: “Yeah, he just left.”
Only then did Quinn open the door.
“Lucy, are you going back to your room, or do you need anything first?” she asked, keeping her tone steady.
Lucy shook her head. “I’m fine, Quinn. I can handle everything except showering.”
Quinn glanced around the apartment again, making sure Julian was really gone, and only then did she relax slightly..
He hadn’t said anything before leaving.

Lucy hadn’t dared ask.
Now that Quinn was there, Lucy finally spoke.
“Quinn… avoiding him like this isn’t really going to fix anything.”
Quinn gave a small, tired smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Then what do you think I should do?”
Before, she could have just moved out.
Now she couldn’t leave Lucy alone.
“My cousin’s busy,” Lucy said quickly, trying to make it sound less serious. “Just because he said he’d come cook doesn’t mean he always will. Worst case, I can go stay at my parents‘ place for a while. Then he won’t have a reason to come here.”
Quinn shook her head immediately. “No, don’t do that. I’m fine.”
She knew Lucy too well.
Being stuck at home for weeks would drive her insane.
“Quinn, I’m sorry,” Lucy said, her voice dropping. “This is all because of me…”
Quinn’s expression tightened, and she cut her off before she could finish. “Don’t say that again. If you do, I’m actually going to get mad.”
