Quinn nodded. “Yeah.”

“Did you feel bad for me?” Julian asked, a genuine smile spreading across his face. “Admit it, worried about me.”

Quinn fell silent, her ears turning bright pink.

But Julian wasn’t about to let her off the hook. He stepped even closer.

Quinn had no choice but to back away until her back pressed firmly against the refrigerator.

Julian wanted a straight answer. “Tell me. Were you feeling sorry for me?”

Quinn tried to push him away, and her palm ended up flat against his chest.

Her face burned even hotter, as if she’d been burned. She quickly pulled her hand back.

“Still shy?” Julian teased, looking at her. “It’s not like you’ve never touched me before. And this time, there are even clothes in the way…”

“Stop talking!” Quinn shoved him lightly. “Cook if you want to. See if I care if you wear yourself out!”

With that, she hurried out of the kitchen.

Lucy looked over at the sound. “Whoa, Quinn, your face is so red! What happened? Did Julian kiss you?”

Quinn was both embarrassed and annoyed. She rushed straight to her bedroom and slammed the door shut.

Lucy burst out laughing.

Julian stood in the kitchen doorway and glanced at her. “Don’t tease her. You still want your allowance, don’t you?”

Lucy tensed up immediately. “Julian! I took some really nice photos of you and Quinn. They’ve got great vibes. Wanna see?”

“Send them to me,” Julian said. After a second, he added, “I’ll take those.”

Lucy opened their chat, scrolled through her gallery, picked out two photos, and sent them over.

She’d keep the rest to earn more allowance later.

Julian opened his phone, looked at the pictures, and was more than satisfied.

He’d already set one as his home screen; this new one could be his lock screen.

Once Julian finished cooking, he knocked on Quinn’s bedroom door. “Quinn, come out and eat.”

Quinn felt her face heating up again. She didn’t look at Lucy or say a word, but she walked toward the entrance and reached for her down jacket.

Julian’s lips curved into a faint smile. He stepped forward first, took the coat off the hanger, and draped it over her shoulders.

“I can do it myself.”

Quinn pulled the jacket on, her face still flushed.

Julian stared at her, his Adam’s apple bobbing. But with Lucy nearby, he didn’t say a word.

Once the doors closed, the small, enclosed space filled instantly with Julian’s presence.

Quinn felt as if he were holding her again.

Julian, meanwhile, was distracted by the graceful line of her neck, delicate like a swan’s.

Quinn finally noticed something was off and quickly reached out to press the button.

Neither of them had pushed it yet.

The elevator began to move slowly downward, the air thick with quiet awkwardness.

Quinn was too flustered to pay much attention to their surroundings.

But the fact that Julian had forgotten to press the button was almost unbelievable.

It seemed like nothing could ever distract someone like him.

Julian spoke up first. “I… got distracted just now. I forgot.”

Quinn murmured a quiet “Oh.”

Julian quickly took back control of the conversation. “Aren’t you going to ask what I was thinking about?”
