Chapter 264 A Rain Check on the Reward
Anything was better than letting her stay stuck in that sad mood.
But before long, Julian himself could barely take it.
Ished
Earlier, when he’d held Quinn, she’d been crying, and all he’d cared about was comforting her. His heart had ached too much to notice any physical reaction.
Now that she’d stopped crying, the position they were in was pure torture for him.
He’d just joked that five more minutes made no difference, when he began to feel something shift. His Adam’s apple bobbed. Without a word, he gripped her waist and lifted her straight off his lap, setting her down in the passenger seat.
Quinn had been too dazed from crying to notice how he’d pulled her onto him earlier. Now sober, she let out a small gasp as she suddenly found herself seated.
She stared at him in disbelief.
Julian was incredibly strong–he’d just lifted her like she weighed nothing at all. It was almost startling.
Julian had begun to react physically and couldn’t risk her finding out. He had to get her off him.
Once she was settled, he took a deep breath and said, “Am I not being good? You wanted down, and I let you. Don’t I get a reward?”
Quinn thought to herself that he hadn’t sounded so nice a second ago.
She had no idea why he’d changed his mind so suddenly.
She could never have guessed how quickly a man’s body could respond.
Still, she relaxed now that the embarrassing position was over.
“A reward?” she asked. “What kind of reward do you want?”
“I can’t think of anything right now,” Julian said. “Can I collect it later?”
Quinn nodded. “Sure.”
Julian couldn’t resist and ruffled her hair softly. “How are you this sweet?”
No wonder people took advantage of her before.
But from now on, no one will ever hurt her again.
Thanks to Julian’s teasing, Quinn’s earlier sadness had slowly faded away.
She’d never told anyone the things she’d buried deep in her heart. Yet she’d told Julian everything tonight.
“It’s getting late. I’ll take you home.”

Chapter 264 A Rain Check on the Reward
Finished
Julian calmed himself down until his body no longer reacted. He leaned over to fasten Quinn’s seatbelt
Quinn tensed as soon as he moved close. “I… I can do it myself!”
Julian reached over, pulled the belt across her, and clicked it into place.
“Pursuing someone means putting in the effort,” he said. “Let me handle little things like this.”
Quinn’s face flushed pink.
Julian lifted a finger and gently tapped her nose. “Shy again?”
Quinn looked away, staring out the window, too flustered to reply.
Knowing she was easily embarrassed, Julian stopped teasing her.
His goal of cheering her up had been achieved.
On the drive back, Julian brought up other topics, gently pulling her completely out of her low mood.
By the time they reached her building, it was past eleven. Quinn worried about Lucy and felt guilty for staying out so late.
“Don’t worry,” Julian said. “I already had someone bring her dinner and help her bathe.”
Quinn murmured softly, “It must be nice having a brother.”
Julian looked at her, his eyes still soft with concern. “Quinn, I want you to remember something.”
Quinn looked up. “What is it?”
“Even… even if you turn me down later, and we can’t be together, promise me you’ll still think of me as a brother. Just like Lucy does, okay?”
Tears pricked at Quinn’s eyes. She turned her head away and sniffled quietly.
