Chapter 284 Unresolved Barriers
“No.” Quinn said. “We’re divorced. Why would we keep in touch?”

“Look…” Rosalie hesitated, then forced her voice to soften. “Mom, Dad, and I would never hurt you. Can’t you see we’re only looking out for you? We’d never push you into something bad.”
Quinn smiled faintly. “I appreciate it. Anything else? If not, I’m leaving.”
“Wait!” Rosalie stopped her again. “Don’t go yet. Stay for lunch.”
She’d made up her mind. If she couldn’t get close to Julian through Geoffrey, Chase was another way in.
Christmas was almost here, and Chase would definitely visit the Sterling Manor for the celebrations.
If Chase and Quinn remarried, she’d be Chase’s relative–and might even get a chance to set foot inside the Sterling Manor.
“I already have plans for lunch,” Quinn refused directly. “I’m leaving.”
Quinn stepped out of Rosalie’s bedroom to find Elaine and Victor waiting anxiously outside.
“How is she? Did she say anything?”
“How’s her mood? Is she okay?”
Quinn said, “She seems fine. She was even asking about me and Chase.”
Elaine immediately relaxed when she heard that.
“She cares about you, and here you are, not even grateful—”
Before she could finish, Quinn said, “I have a lunch appointment. I’m leaving.”
Once she was gone, Elaine muttered angrily, “What an ungrateful child!”
Victor shook his head in disappointment. “She just doesn’t know what’s good for her.”
Stepping outside the Lane Villa, Quinn let out a long breath and smiled softly.
From the moment she’d decided to divorce, so much had happened.
She’d grown strong enough now that the Lanes could no longer hurt her.
From now on, she would carve out her own path.
It might be tough, poor, and exhausting, but she would never regret it.
There were still more than two weeks until Christmas. Quinn settled down and focused on refining her work for the upcoming competition.
Lucy’s leg was still injured, so she couldn’t go out and simply rested at home to recover.

Chapter 84 Unresolved Barriers
Julian had gone on a business trip.
In previous years, he was always swamped around Christmas.
This year, though, he’d cut back drastically on his schedule because of Quinn.
Finisher
But this particular trip abroad was one no one else could handle–he had to meet with foreign officials in person.
He had no choice but to go.
The trip would take him through several countries and last at least ten days.
He might not be back until right before Christmas.
Before he left, he’d arranged for meals to be delivered to Quinn and Lucy.
He’d even hired someone specifically to help Lucy bathe.
Lucy found the whole thing hilarious.
“Julian is just… ridiculous. He didn’t want you helping me bathe, so he hired someone to do it instead!”
Julian had taken an early morning flight, and the helper wasn’t arriving until evening, so Quinn hadn’t known about it yet.
She blinked in surprise. “To help you bathe?”
Lucy laughed. “Julian gets jealous even when we shower together. I’ve seen you so many times already–can he really be jealous over that?”
Quinn couldn’t help but smile too.
Lucy leaned in eagerly. “Quinn, when are you two finally getting together? I’m more anxious than you are! I just want to lock you two in a room and make you date already.”
Quinn smiled gently. “Lucy, let’s just let things happen naturally.”
Truthfully, Quinn was already completely sure of her feelings for Julian.
But between the two of them, there were still some unresolved barriers.

Many problems still stood between them.

At least in Quinn’s mind, she chose to leave it up to fate whether this relationship would ever start–or if it ever would at all.
She would let things happen naturally.
But for the past while, she had seen Julian nearly every day.
Now that he was gone, Quinn felt strangely empty inside.
Focusing on her dress designs helped a little.
But whenever she stepped away from her work, longing for him followed her everywhere.
It was a change in emotion she never could have expected.
In previous years, Julian would stay abroad for at least a month during this period.
This year, he’d cut his trip in half, even taking overnight flights to move between countries.
He was running on almost no rest, sleeping less than five hours a day.
That left him with barely any time to contact Quinn.
On top of that, the time difference made it hard–he wanted to chat with her before bed, but feared disturbing her sleep.
And so, days passed with only a handful of messages exchanged between them.
Throughout this time, Chase’s texts kept coming every single day.
Quinn never replied.
Chase had also tried to reach Rosalie, knowing she’d returned to Lakeshore City.
He’d heard it from several of his friends.
Before Rosalie went abroad, she’d been close to him, and all his friends knew her well.
She’d met up with them for meals since coming back.
Ironically, Chase, who had once been closest to her, hadn’t seen her at all.
When Rosalie received Chase’s call, her feelings were complicated.
She’d cut ties with him to avoid ruining her chances with Julian.
But now that she knew the man she’d dated online wasn’t Julian at all, her whole world had fallen apart.
Chase, after all, was still better than Geoffrey.
