Chase had called, and from his tone, he sounded annoyed.

But Rosalie didn’t mind.

The angrier he is, the more he still cares.

“Chase. I didn’t mean any of what I said back then,” she said softly. “How could I ever hurt you? After everything we’ve had…”

Chase was unmoved. “I don’t want to keep in touch with you anymore. And stop lying to my friends, got it?”

Rosalie froze. This isn’t how this was supposed to go.

“Chase, I wasn’t really talking about business. I just… I was worried about you. It’s been so long, and you never called…”

Chase laughed dryly. “You’re the one who told me to stop bothering you. Said I’d get in the way of you and your boyfriend.”

Rosalie hurried to say, “You mean more to me than any boyfriend. It hurt me so much to say those things. I’ve wanted to make things right between us for so long. And…”

“And what?”

“I broke up with him because of you.”

That finally got a reaction out of Chase. “You ended it for me?”

“He couldn’t stand me being friends with another guy. But Chase, be honest–did we ever cross a line? If he couldn’t trust me, I didn’t want to be with him. I was wrong before, Chase. I’m sorry, okay?”

Truth be told, Chase had never seen this side of her.
