But this time, he felt nothing at all.

“Rosalie,” he said, “I gave you so much of my heart once. I don’t think I could ever hate you. But I don’t love you anymore either.”
Panic flashed across Rosalie’s face at his words.
She’d once thought she had Chase wrapped around her finger, that she could control every emotion he felt.
When she’d believed she would end up with Julian, she’d had no use for Chase.
But now, Julian was completely out of reach.
Among all the men she knew, Chase was actually the best option left.
She couldn’t afford to let him go.
At that thought, her hatred for Geoffrey flared even hotter.
She no longer felt anything for him–only resentment.
He was the one who had ruined all her plans.
Yet she couldn’t even act on her anger; she still had to pretend to be nice to him.
When had Rosalie ever been this humiliated?
And now Chase was talking like this.
Realizing she might lose her hold over him, Rosalie began to panic.
She teared up. “Chase… you still won’t forgive me?”
“I do forgive you. I don’t blame you at all.” Chase explained. “Rosalie, I just… I’ve realized the person I really love is Quinn.”
“What?” Rosalie snapped, instantly furious. “You used to say you loved me!”
She didn’t even want his love anymore–but she certainly wasn’t going to let Quinn have it.
Chase said, “I only just figured out my own feelings recently. Anyway, we can be friends if you want. If not, there’s nothing I can do.”
“Chase…” Rosalie pleaded urgently. “Can we meet? Let’s talk properly.”
“No need,” Chase said. “I only called to tell you to stop making up stories to my friends. I don’t want Quinn hearing them and getting the wrong idea about us.”
“Just meet me,” Rosalie said, truly alarmed. “Chase, can you really bear to see me this upser?”
Chase replied, “You’re the one who told me to stay away. Now I’m doing what you asked.”

“Chase!” she cried. “I broke up with my boyfriend for you. Are you really going to be this cruel and just abandon me?”
“I can’t help that,” Chase said. “You told me not to bother you, and now you say you left him for me. Doesn’t that sound contradictory to you?”
Even Rosalie couldn’t defend her own words.
She’d never expected the man who once obeyed her every word could become so rational and cold once his feelings for her faded.
“Chase, let’s just meet. After all these years… even if we’re nothing more, can’t we still see each other?”
Chase sighed. In the end, he couldn’t bring himself to refuse. “Fine. When?”
Rosalie answered at once, “Right now. There’s a café downstairs my apartment. Come meet me here.”
Chase hung up, thought for a moment, and sent Quinn a text before heading out.
When her phone buzzed, Quinn saw it was from Chase.
She deleted the message immediately and blocked the number.
Then she stared blankly at her screen.
If it wasn’t a message from Julian, she barely cared at all.
From what Lucy had told her, she knew Julian was extremely busy.
Incredibly busy.
Still, Quinn couldn’t help hoping for a text from him.
