Chapter 296 No Way to Clear the Name

Under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t have cared less. But right now, her two colleagues were right there with her.
Once before, Rosalie had arranged for Elaine to bring some teachers to a restaurant, hoping they would see Quinn in a compromising position and label her the other woman.
She’d wanted to ruin Quinn’s reputation for good.
Much to her frustration, things hadn’t gone her way.
Quinn had managed to get out of that situation completely unscathed.
But today…
If word got back to school with these two teachers around, even if Rosalie wasn’t really a homewrecker, nobody would believe her.
How could this be happening? Rosalie was panicking.
Elaine feared the exact same thing. Those two teachers were notorious gossips.
She was on good terms with them and often chatted about trivial things with them, so she knew exactly how they were.
If this story spread at school, she would never be able to show her face again.
She hurried to say, “There’s been a terrible misunderstanding! Chase, stop talking nonsense. You’re the one who can’t let go of Rosalie. How is your divorce her fault? If you have feelings for her, is she supposed to be blamed for that?”
Chase was done arguing. He just said, “Fine. Believe whatever you want.”
His vague response only made the crowd whisper even more.
Elaine was seething.
Why is Chase being so infuriating all of a sudden?
Jess was holding back a laugh.
Quinn had had enough of all this.
Nothing she said would ever satisfy Chase, Rosalie, or Elaine.
She didn’t care what happened between them anymore.
It was only then that Elaine noticed Quinn.
Fury flared in her eyes. “So you’re here too! Why didn’t you clear this up for everyone? You’re the one who insisted on the divorce. This has nothing to do with your sister!”

She turned to the onlookers. “Don’t get the wrong idea. Rosalie is not a homewrecker. This is daughter, this is my younger one, and he was my younger daughter’s husband. Their divorce was due to problems in their own relationship, not my older daughter!”
“Wait, they’re sisters? Fighting over the same man?”
“Oh, this just gets better and better!”
“What kind of family raises daughters like this?”
The gossip only grew louder.
Elaine’s face turned red with anger.
She glared at Quinn. “Aren’t you going to say something?!”
Quinn smiled faintly. “I’m not actually her biological daughter. I was adopted. My ex–husband and I divorced for several reasons. There’s no need for speculation.”
She didn’t want to stay any longer and glanced at Jess.
Jess said, “I’ll walk you out.”
As Quinn tried to leave, Elaine immediately stepped in her way.
She was far from satisfied with Quinn’s so–called explanation.
It clarified nothing. People would still think Rosalie was the other woman.
“Who is he? Is he your new boyfriend? How long have you been divorced, and you’re already seeing someone else?” Elaine snapped.
She hadn’t been there earlier and had no idea Jess had already said he wasn’t interested in women.
She had no idea how ridiculous her accusation sounded.
“No wonder she treats her like that. If she’s adopted, that explains everything.”
“Look how mean she is to her. Who knows how much the adopted girl has suffered?”
“Shame on her, accusing her daughter like that in public!”
Elaine’s head swam as the whispers closed in around her.
