Chapter 297 Shame Piles Up
Image was everything to her. She cared about nothing more than saving face.
Her daughter had always been her pride and joy, and she’d spent years telling everyone how well she treated her adopted daughter.
But today, her daughter had been exposed as the other woman, and her cold, harsh treatment of Quinn had been laid bare for all her colleagues to see.
She couldn’t even bear to imagine what people would say at school.
Years of carefully building a respectable reputation would be ruined in an instant.
She snapped at the crowd, “Stop talking nonsense! None of this is true!”
But
one listened.
Everyone could see with their own eyes how she treated Quinn.
It was obvious.
Quinn ignored her completely and headed for the door.
Elaine’s temper flared, and she reached out to grab her.
Jess stepped in to shield Quinn.
“Ma’am, are you really going to hit your adopted daughter in public? Must do this a lot at home, huh?”
Elaine was furious. “I have never laid a hand on her!”
“I saw you,” Jess said calmly. “I saw how you yell at her like that. If you speak to her this way in front of strangers, who knows how badly you treat her behind closed doors.”
“I do no such thing!”
Elaine had never been humiliated like this. She was always the one lecturing others from some moral high ground.
For the first time in her life, she had no way to defend herself. Overwhelmed with anger and panic, she stumbled backward.
Rosalie gasped. “Mom!”
As soon as Quinn left, Chase took off after her.
Elaine reached out. “Chase, don’t you dare leave! Explain yourself to everyone!”
Chase paused, but only said one thing.
“Can you all just stay out of this? I’m trying to win Quinn back. Stop getting in my way.”

With that, he chased after Quinn.
Elaine could not take it anymore. She abandoned all pretense and prepared to leave.
Rosalie supported her, ready to follow.
Then Jess spoke up suddenly.
“Miss, you were returning the items you bought earlier, right? Our products are excellent. Why return them?”
Rosalie had already finished the return, but Jess said this purely to draw attention to it.
Rosalie’s face burned with shame.
Elaine’s two colleagues had watched the entire spectacle unfold.
Hearing Rosalie was returning items, their expressions turned even more judgmental.
Elaine was also surprised. “You bought something and returned it? Why?”
Rosalie couldn’t bring herself to answer. She couldn’t exactly say Chase had refused to pay for her.
“Mom, let’s just go home.”
Once they stepped outside, Elaine forced a smile to her colleagues.
“Everything that happened today was just a misunderstanding. You’ve known Rosalie since she was little. You know what she’s really like.”
The teachers smiled and nodded in agreement.
As soon as they parted ways, Elaine gritted her teeth in frustration.
“How could this happen? Who knows what they’ll say at school! Has Quinn lost her mind? And what is wrong with Chase?”
Rosalie was equally miserable.
Then Elaine suddenly had an idea.
“Rosalie, where’s that boyfriend of yours? The one you said was some big shot? Bring him to a dinner with family and friends. Let everyone see you’d never even look at a guy like Chase!”
Rosalie only grew more upset. “Mom, stop it.”
Elaine frowned. “Why? It’s the perfect way to fix this!”
“We broke up,” Rosalie finally admitted. “Don’t bring him up again.”
