He asked. “On the first day after Christmas, will you be my girlfriend?”
She replied. “Yes.”
After that, Julian could barely focus on anything.
But he had to visit several elders-he couldn’t just leave.
Even during lunch with them, he could barely sit still.
Julian was normally calm, composed, and unshakable no matter the situation.
But today, he was clearly distracted.
One of the elders finally asked, “Something on your mind, Julian? You seem restless.”
Julian said, “Just a small work matter. I was thinking of handling it after lunch.”
“Then don’t stay with us any long
The meal was nearly over anyway.
Work comes first.”
Julian apologized, excused himself politely, and left at once.
He wanted to get to Quinn as soon as possible.
But he couldn’t say that in front of the elders, so he used work as an excuse.
He headed straight for her place after leaving the lunch.
Quinn had just gotten back from visiting Adele when the doorbell rang.
She had a feeling it was Julian.
Her heart raced.
When they’d last parted, they hadn’t been official.
Now, seeing each other again, she was his girlfriend.
And he was her boyfriend.
Quinn took a deep breath and opened the door.
Sure enough, Julian was standing outside.
Their eyes met.
Julian was holding back so many urges-to hold her, kiss her, be close to her in every way.

He spoke with a soft smile, “Hello, girlfriend.”
Quinn’s heart skipped, and her face flushed.
Julian looked at her. “What do I get to be called?”
Quinn blushed far too easily. He’d have to help her get used to this.
She finally mumbled, “H-hello… boyfriend.”
Julian’s lips curved into a smile.
He took her hand, and they went inside.
Quinn’s heart was pounding-not scared, just nervous.
She didn’t know what he might do now that they were officially together.
Couples did things couples did.
Though Julian had always been respectful before, she thought he might act differently now.
But instead, he sat with her on the sofa and asked about Adele.
They talked about other things, too.
When the time was right, he went to the kitchen and cooked dinner.
After they ate, Julian didn’t stay long. He prepared to leave around nine.
To Quinn’s surprise, he hadn’t done anything more than hold her hand.
No other moves, no boundaries crossed.
At first she’d been tense, but she’d relaxed as they chatted.
When he said he was leaving, it finally hit her.

Standing at the door, he said, “Go on inside. I’ll be busy for a couple more days, but I’ll pick you up early on the day we set off.”
They’d already planned a short trip together.
Quinn nodded. “Okay.”
She would use the next two days to finish up her work.
Julian gently ruffled her hair. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight,” Quinn replied.
Julian smiled at her and turned to leave.

Quinn closed the door and leaned against it, still feeling like none of this was quite real.
