Chapter 344 A Past He Never Spoke Of
Her voice was barely a whisper.
Julian didn’t push her any further. His girlfriend was shy, so he had to take things slow.
He couldn’t afford to scare her away.
They chatted casually, and Quinn gradually relaxed.
When Julian checked the time, he hated to end the call but knew he had to.
“I’ll come pick you up tomorrow. No need to wake up early-sleep in. I’ll be there around nine.”
“It’s fine,” Quinn said. “I don’t really sleep in.”
She usually woke up between seven and eight anyway.
“Then I’ll come earlier.” He smiled. “You looking forward to seeing me that bad?”
She was.
Quinn took a deep breath and admitted it bravely. “Yeah.”
Something stirred sharply in Julian’s chest. For a second, he almost wanted to rush straight to her that second.
He’d never thought he’d be this impulsive at his age.
Turned out all his calm and maturity only applied to everyone else.
With Quinn, he felt like a reckless, fiery teenager again.
The kind of rush and restlessness only she could bring out in him.
And he had to hold himself back, afraid he’d overwhelm her.
Even one simple word from her made his blood race and his whole body feel hot.
“I should go.” Julian said, forcing himself to end the call.
He was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself if they kept talking.
Even before they were officially together, he’d already craved every kind of closeness with her.
The next day, when he saw her, Julian fought the urge to pull her into a hug and just smiled.
Unexpectedly, after greeting him, Quinn suddenly stepped forward and hugged him on her own.
Julian froze for a moment, then wrapped his arms around her tightly, unwilling to let go,
They’d planned a day out, and Julian led her downstairs hand in hand.

Finished
Quinn guessed he’d drive himself, and sure enough, once they reached the car, he opened the passenger door for her.
When she got in, she immediately spotted the hanging ornament she’d crocheted for him-a little deer and a safety charm, meant to keep him safe on the road.
Julian got in too and noticed her staring at it. “It’s beautiful. I love it.”
They didn’t go far. Julian took her hiking.
It wasn’t a famous spot, so there were hardly any other people around, and the mountain wasn’t very steep.
They reached the top in less than an hour.
At the summit stood a small rural chapel, tended only by an elderly man.
Beside the entrance grew an enormous old locust tree, with a few faded ribbons tied loosely to its branches.
Julian kept holding her hand as they stood beneath it.
“I came here when I was a kid,” he said.
Quinn tilted her head, confused. “Did your family bring you here?”
“No,” Julian said quietly. “When I was little, I was kidnapped.”
Quinn’s heart skipped a beat.
“My parents were always busy, so a nanny took care of me most of the time. She’d worked for us for over a decade, and my parents trusted her completely. Then one day, her son got into gambling and owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Back then, that amount was unimaginable to her. She was manipulated by others and brought me up this mountain.”
Quinn’s chest tightened painfully.
Logically, she knew he was standing right next to her, so it had ended safely.
But hearing him say it out loud still hurt.
“The old man here at the chapel saved me,” he continued.
“My family wanted to reward him generously afterward, but he refused everything.
“His wife died on this mountain. So he’s stayed to look after it ever since.”
