Quinn quickly pulled her shirt back up, her face burning. “Lucy!”

“Wow.” Lucy whistled. “Things got pretty intense, huh?”

Quinn was mortified and turned to walk away.

Lucy hurried after her, apologizing. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry! I’ll show you my hickeys someday when I get a boyfriend, how about that?”

Like she wanted to see those.

Quinn wasn’t angry-just incredibly shy.

Lucy coaxed her a little, and soon they were laughing again.

They had lunch together, then Lucy dragged her shopping.

Out of nowhere, they ran into Zeke.

Zeke had known for a while that Julian and Quinn were together.

Quinn barely knew him, so she just nodded politely.

Lucy chatted with him for a moment, then handed her bag to Quinn. “Hold this for me, I need to use the

restroom.”

They were at a café. As soon as Lucy left, Quinn and Zeke were left alone face-to-face.

The air felt awkward. Zeke spoke first.

“You and Julian have been together for a while now. I’ve been saying we should all get dinner. When are you free?”

“I’ll have to check with him,” Quinn said. “He’s pretty busy.”

She got out at the front gate and started walking in when a girl’s voice cut through the air.

“Hold it right there!”

Quinn didn’t think she was the target, but she looked over anyway.

A stranger was staring at her with clear hostility.

She froze and glanced around.

No one else was nearby.

“Quit looking around. I’m talking to you!”

The girl marched over and snapped, “Do you have any idea Zeke is getting engaged?”

Quinn thought she was being ridiculous, but since she mentioned Zeke, she figured she must be a friend of his.

She barely knew Zeke-how would she know about his engagement?

She shook her head. “I don’t know.”

“Good. So you’re not knowingly messing with a taken man.”

Quinn blinked. “What are you talking about?”

“I’m Zeke’s fiancée!” the girl said haughtily. “If you’ve been messing around with him, I suggest you cut it off right now.”

Quinn almost laughed in exasperation. “Zeke and I? We’re not even friends.”

“You’re lying!” the girl stamped her foot. “I saw you having coffee with him this afternoon!”

She added, “If you don’t believe me, I can call him to prove it.”

“No need,” Zoe said. She studied her. “If your boyfriend’s friends with Zeke, then do you know who the girl Zeke’s been seeing is?”

Quinn said, “I barely know him. I didn’t even know he was getting engaged. How would I know about any other girl?”

“I see,” Zoe said, giving her a skeptical once-over. “Alright. I had the wrong person. Sorry.”

“It’s fine,” Quinn said. She hesitated, then asked, “Why don’t you just talk to Zeke directly?”

“Like I’d go chasing after him!” Zoe huffed. “That would be beneath me.”

The girl in front of her was spoiled, but very pretty and young-she didn’t even look twenty.

Quinn asked, “If you two are engaged, you have every right to confront him. Wait… are you even old enough?”

“I’m twenty!” Zoe suddenly grinned. “Since you’ve got good taste, I’ll let you be my friend. Name’s Zoe Jinn.”

She held out her hand.
