“Dad, you have to find a way to get me out,” Faye begged anxiously.

“You were far too reckless to act like this,” Troy chided her.

“I just lost my head back then. I never thought Julian would grow suspicious. Traffic accidents happen all the time, so why did he zero in on us so quickly?”

“He runs a huge business, of course he is sharp enough to see through tricks,” Troy replied.

On their way back, Troy spoke in a serious tone, “We need to plan our next move carefully.”

After checking into the hotel, he called Mark right away.

“Mark, you watched Faye grow up. She is part of our family. She is still young and made a mistake. As her uncle, you cannot stand by and let her go to prison.”

Mark felt utterly helpless. “She is a full adult now and must take responsibility for her own actions. No one gave her the courage to break the law so boldly.”

Troy put on a sorrowful tone. “You know how much your father dotes on her. He will never get over it if he finds out what happened.”

Mark rubbed his temples feeling troubled. His father was indeed extremely fond of Faye, for she was good at sweet words and knew how to please elders. Even so, Mark had no intention of interfering in this case.

“Even if the victim were an ordinary person instead of Julian’s girl, I would never step in to help. Anyone who commits a crime deserves due punishment. Don’t say another word, this matter ends here.”

He ended the call and massaged his aching brows. Xenia walked out after changing clothes, noticing his worn look. She stepped forward and gently rubbed his temples for him. “Is everything alright? Did something come up with work?”

Mark held her soft hand tightly. “A business friend’s wife got hurt in a car crash. I need to head to the hospital to check on her. I will come back soon and take you out for a walk, okay?”

“Go ahead then, I will wait for you here.”

Though Julian had turned down his visit before, Mark still thought it proper to show his sincere concern. He arrived outside the hospital and dialed Julian’s number.

“Thanks for your kindness, Mr. Jinn. My girl has already fallen asleep, and she cannot receive any guests right now,” Julian refused plainly.

“I swear I will never shield Faye from punishment. Still, she is a member of my family, and I truly feel guilty over what happened. You can come to me for any business needs in the future. I will do whatever I can to make up for it,” Mark offered a sincere promise.

Mark frowned in confusion. “How can you go back on your word like this?”

“My girl nearly lost her life that day. I truly have no idea what I would do if anything worse had happened to her. Put yourself in my shoes, would you still choose to cooperate with those connected to the culprit?”

Mark fell silent instantly. He knew perfectly well he would never let anyone off easily if Xenia got hurt. He could fully understand Julian’s anger yet still tried to persuade him.

“Faye will surely receive harsh legal punishment. Please reconsider our business partnership.”

“There is nothing left to reconsider. I never want to see you or any of your family members again.” With that said, Julian hung up the call without hesitation.

Good news came soon that the injured driver and bodyguard had finished their surgeries and were moved to the intensive care unit. Yet they were still in critical condition. Medical staff would keep close watch for seventy-two hours, and they could only be transferred to ordinary wards once their vital signs stabilized. No fatal casualties had occurred, but solid evidence of Faye’s premeditated crime left no room for dispute.

Zoe and her family also rushed to the hospital, yet Julian refused to meet them at all. Zoe could only feel grateful that Quinn had escaped serious harm. She was filled with endless remorse knowing all the trouble stemmed from her connection with Quinn.

Lucy also hurried over after hearing the news. Julian was in no mood to receive anyone and kept her outside the ward as well. Understanding Quinn needed quiet rest, Lucy did not press further.

She ran into Zoe and learned the whole story soon after.

“This does not make sense at all. Faye would never harbor such murderous hatred just because Quinn is close to you. If that were the case, she would have targeted you long ago,” Lucy said doubtfully.

“I have no clue either, she is simply out of her mind,” Zoe sighed helplessly.

Lucy still sensed there must be deeper hidden reasons behind the incident. “You two have never gotten along well, yet you only bickered occasionally and barely crossed paths in daily life. There is no way she would plan such a cruel attack just after meeting Quinn once.”

Zoe also found the whole thing highly suspicious. “Could it be that she has a crush on Julian and sees Quinn as her romantic rival?”

“We can’t be sure. I will talk to Julian and figure out the real truth later,” Lucy replied.
