Losing me after 54

Chapter 54 The Truth Exposed
She was nothing but an ungrateful girl.
How could she ever compare to Rosalie? Rosalie was their biological daughter.

If keeping Quinn in the family only brought shame and embarrassment, then what was the point of keeping her at all?
Veronica looked at Quinn with worry.
When they left the house earlier, Quinn had already been running a fever.
Veronica had told her they should go to the hospital first, but Quinn refused.
And now her parents were saying things cruel enough to break anyone’s heart.
“Think carefully.” Elaine said. “Once you cut ties with us, you’ll be completely alone. Do you really think Chase married you because of who you are? He married you because of our family!”
Victor snorted.
“Why waste time talking to her? All the money we spent raising her all these years, just consider it charity. We were blind back then to raise someone like this.”
Quinn gave a faint smile.
“I’ve been earning academic scholarships since elementary school,” she said calmly. “They weren’t huge at first, but by middle school the school had waived my tuition and most of my fees. I also received a 100,000 dollars academic scholarship.”
She paused for a moment before continuing.
“In high school I kept winning more scholarships, and when I graduated I ranked first in my class across Lakeshore City. Between awards from the school and the city, the prize money alone added up to more than a million dollars.”
Veronica laughed from the side.
“And you two are university professors?” she said mockingly. “You make it sound so noble, but it doesn’t look like you actually spent much money raising her. Calling that charity is pretty bold. If charity worked the way you describe it, people who truly need help would starve.”
Victor and Elaine had never expected Quinn to bring up those details.
Everything she said was the truth.
They had no way to argue. Hearing Veronica’s sarcasm only made their faces burn with embarrassment.
Quinn continued quietly, “I’m grateful that you raised me. Not because of money or material things. I worked so hard in school because I wanted you to be proud of me. I wanted to repay you. I treated you as my real parents. I wanted you to feel proud of me. But when someone hurt me, you chose to pretend

nothing happened.”

“You can’t say that,” Elaine replied after a moment. “What Chase did was wrong, but it’s not something that needs to go as far as calling the police.”
She thought for a moment, her tone softening.
“Your father and I both know you’re a good girl. You’ve always been obedient. This time you just made us angry. Apologize, and we will forgive you. After that, go home and live peacefully with Chase. If he ever mistreats you again, I won’t let him get away with it.”
“What exactly did Quinn do wrong that she has to apologize?” Veronica finally snapped. “That bastard treated her like that, and you’re still telling her to go back and live with him? Only adoptive parents could say something like that. If she were your biological daughter, would you really say the same thing?”
Victor knew he couldn’t win an argument with Veronica.
So he looked directly at Quinn. “I’ll ask you one last time. Are you withdrawing the report or not?”
Veronica held Quinn’s arm. “Quinn, I’m with you,” she said firmly.
Quinn raised her eyes. Tears shimmered inside them. Even after everything, she had always considered these two people her family.
But this time, their coldness and insults had truly chilled her heart. She finally understood something.
This relationship had always been held together by her efforts alone. To them, she had never truly mattered.
“I won’t withdraw the report,” she said quietly. “And I’m still getting divorced. If you still believe in Chase, then there’s something else you should know.”
Elaine glanced uneasily at Veronica.
“Quinn, come home with Mom first,” she said. “We can sit down and talk about this calmly.”
“There’s no need,” Quinn replied. “I won’t change my mind. I’m grateful that you raised me, but I won’t sacrifice my life for that, especially when you don’t even care what happens to me.”
“Love isn’t just something you say,” Elaine insisted. “How could your father and I not care about you?”
Quinn looked straight at them.
“If Chase committed something truly unforgivable, would you support me in divorcing him?”
“He just made a stupid mistake,” Elaine said. “People can change. Give him another chance.”
“That’s not what happened.”
Quinn looked at them steadily, her voice calm as she tore open the deepest wound she carried.
“He traded me away for status, money, and power. He sent me to another man’s bed, using his own wife to please someone else.”

She spoke each word slowly.
“Mom. Dad. Tell me how I’m supposed to spend the rest of my life with a man like that?”
Even Elaine and Victor, who had always seen Chase as the perfect son–in–law, were completely stunned.
Elaine stood there, unable to react for a long moment.
Victor was the first to recover. “That’s impossible,” he said sharply. “Chase would never do something like that! You’re making up lies just to get your divorce!”
Veronica had already lost all patience with them.
University professors?People like this are supposed to educate others?
What kind of example is that?
“If you think she’s lying.” Veronica said coldly, “why don’t you ask Chase yourself?”
The couple was clearly shaken by the revelation.
But Veronica didn’t wait for them to respond. She supported Quinn and walked away.
From the way those two treated Quinn, anyone could guess what her life had been like all those years.
