Chapter 60 The Public Apology
Halfway through the meal, Lucy suddenly got called away by her boss and had to go back to work overtime.

By the time Quinn finished her IV treatment, it was already past one in the afternoon. After lunch, the timing was perfect to head to the county clerk’s office to file the divorce.
Veronica drove her there.
Before they even parked, they saw Chase standing near the entrance.
He was dressed in a sharp suit and looked confident and energetic, as if he had made a special effort to dress up.
What caught even more attention was the large bouquet of bright red roses in his arms.
Veronica frowned. “That’s Chase, right? What’s he doing? Who dresses up like that for a divorce? And why is he holding flowers?”

“I have no idea,” Quinn said.
But a bad feeling suddenly rose in her chest.
“Don’t worry,” Veronica said as she parked the car. “I’ll go with you. We’ve come this far. There’s no way he’s backing out now.”
The two of them got out of the car.
Chase spotted Quinn immediately.
Veronica was a striking beauty with a powerful presence, confident and sharp. Many men without confidence would feel intimidated just by looking at her.
But Quinn’s beauty was completely different.
She wore a simple winter coat, and her hair hung loosely around her shoulders.
Yet her skin was pale and flawless, her features delicate. There was a soft, radiant charm about her that was uniquely feminine.
Suddenly Chase thought that if Quinn were willing to cooperate, spending the rest of his life with a woman like her might not be so bad after all.
He walked toward them quickly, his eyes fixed only on Quinn. Veronica instinctively stepped forward and shielded Quinn behind her.
“Mr. Sterling,” she said coldly. “You seem pretty excited about getting divorced, showing up with flowers like you’re celebrating”
Chase quickly explained, “It’s not for celebrating. I bought these flowers to apologize to Quinn.”

“It’s good that you want to apologize, Veronica said. “You’ve done plenty of things worth apologizing for. But forget the flowers. I’m sure Quinn won’t accept them.”
Chase frowned in dissatisfaction. “Can you let me talk to Quinn for a minute?”
With his usual temper, he would have exploded already. But today he was here to apologize.
Veronica was about to say something else when Quinn lightly tapped her arm.
“Let’s not argue,” Quinn said. “We’re here to handle the paperwork. Let’s just go inside.”
“Quinn!”
Suddenly Chase dropped to one knee and lifted the roses toward her.
“I know I was wrong,” he said. “I sincerely apologize. I truly regret what I did. Please give me another chance.”
Quinn had not expected that at all and instinctively stepped back.
Veronica stared at him in disbelief. “What are you doing? Are you serious right now?”
Chase looked only at Quinn.
“Quinn, can you forgive me? I know I broke your heart, and I regret it. From now on I’ll treat you well, respect you, and love you. Please believe me.”
Quinn took a deep breath, trying to suppress the sudden wave of nausea rising in her stomach.
Every time she saw Chase, she felt like throwing up. Forgiving him and giving him another chance was completely impossible.
She shook her head. “No. There’s no future for us.”
“Everyone makes mistakes,” Chase said. “You can’t give me a life sentence over one mistake.”
Quinn let out a cold laugh.
“One mistake? Is that what you call it? What you did is no different from murder. Actually, it’s worse than murder. At least murder ends quickly. What you did destroys someone from the inside. Giving you a life sentence would be completely justified.”
“Even people on death row sometimes get their sentence reduced,” Chase said anxiously. “Quinn, my dad can supervise me. If you don’t trust me, you should trust him, I swear I’ll treat you well from now on. I’ll never do anything to betray you again.”
“I already said it’s impossible,” Quinn said. “You claim you respect me, right? Then respect my decision and divorce me. Chase, I admit that I loved you before. But that was in the past. Now when I see you, I feel sick. I will never forgive you in this lifetime.”
“I understand how you feel,” Chase said quickly. “You don’t forgive me, you hate me. Quinn, that only proves you still care about me. Without love, there wouldn’t be hate, Give me time. I’ll prove my sincerity

“You’ve got some nerve flattering yourself like that,” she snapped. “Still cares about you? She feels disgusted when she sees you. Disgusted. Do you understand that word?”
Chase remained on one knee, his attitude humble.
“You can insult me however you want. I deserve it. I truly know I was wrong this time. I’m only asking for one chance. Just one chance. Watch how I behave from now on. If you’re still unhappy, I’ll agree to the divorce.
“Fine. I agree.”

“Quinn!” Veronica nearly exploded. “What are you saying?”
Chase’s face lit up with joy. “Really, Quinn? I knew you still cared about me.”
Quinn gave Veronica a reassuring look.
Then she looked down at Chase.
“After thinking about it, I’m not satisfied. So can we get divorced now?”
Veronica finally relaxed when she heard that.
Chase’s expression darkened immediately. “You’re playing with me?”
Quinn said calmly, “For three years, I kept telling myself that loving you would eventually lead to something. Now the result is right in front of me. If this had happened three years ago, when I still loved you, I might have softened. I might have given you another chance. But now you’ve already used up every bit of love I had for you. Do
you understand?”
