Zeke finally lost patience and called Julian, hoping to hurry him along.
Fleshed
The call rang several times, but no one picked up. What he did not know was that Julian was already inside the restaurant lobby.
The moment Julian stepped through the entrance, his gaze immediately locked onto Quinn.
Her face still carried a trace of pallor, her body clearly not fully recovered yet.
She was supporting Lucy, who was leaning heavily against her, almost half her weight resting on Quinn’s shoulders.
Just seconds earlier, Lucy had been clinging to Quinn in a drunken haze. Then suddenly she lifted her hand and slapped the man standing beside her.
The sharp crack of the slap echoed through the restaurant.
Even Julian heard it clearly from the entrance.
He lengthened his stride and headed straight toward them. The man who had been slapped snapped back to his senses and immediately raised his hand, ready to strike back.
Quinn reacted without thinking. She pulled Lucy into her arms and stepped in front of her, shielding her with her own body.
She had never expected things to escalate like this.
Originally, she had joined the dinner halfway through. At first the atmosphere had been fairly relaxed.
Then someone began egging Lucy on to make a toast.
They kept praising her performance at work, insisting she should show her appreciation by drinking with
everyone.
Lucy had already had far too much to drink. There was no way Quinn was letting her drink another drop.
At that point she no longer cared whether Lucy’s coworkers would be offended. She politely told Adam she needed to take Lucy home and helped her to her feet.
But Adam quietly signaled to another man across the table.
The man walked over. While talking, he began trying to touch Quinn inappropriately.
Lucy might have been drunk, but she was not completely out of it. The moment she noticed what was happening, her temper flared.
Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped him. She was drunk and not particularly strong, so the slap itself did not hurt much.

The man’s expression twisted with anger as he raised his hand to hit her back.
Quinn was still holding Lucy up with both hands. Without even thinking, she stepped forward and used her body to shield her.
She braced herself for the impact. But the pain she expected never came.
The noise around her suddenly faded. When she opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a wall of dark fabric in front of her.
A familiar cool scent drifted into her senses.
The man standing there was too close. Quinn instinctively stepped back two paces, forcing down the fear rising in her chest.
Only then did she realize Julian had appeared at some point. His arm was extended, his hand gripping the attacker’s wrist before the blow could land.
The man’s height and strength meant nothing in front of Julian.
Several of the man’s coworkers had started moving forward to help him, but the moment they noticed Julian’s presence and imposing aura, every single one of them froze.
Julian released the man’s wrist and pushed him away with a casual motion.
The man staggered backward several steps before someone caught him and helped him steady himself.
A bodyguard quickly stepped forward and handed Julian a disinfecting wipe.
Julian lowered his eyes and calmly wiped his hands, as though touching the man had dirtied them.
“What exactly is going on here?” he asked.
His voice was low and steady, carrying the unmistakable authority of someone used to being obeyed.
The entire group seemed stunned, as if no one could understand where this powerful man had suddenly appeared from.
Adam was the first to recover.
With one glance he could tell Julian was clearly wealthy and influential.
He immediately pushed through the crowd with a wide smile and extended his hand.
“Hello, sir. I’m the owner of this company. My employees got a little carried away tonight…”
He attempted to shake Julian’s hand.
Julian merely glanced at him. A bodyguard instantly stepped forward and blocked the gesture:

Julian turned his attention to Quinn.
“Have you been drinking?” he asked.

His voice was noticeably colder now. Quinn realized it was because she had instinctively stepped away from him earlier.
She quickly shook her head.
“I didn’t drink.”
She did not want Lucy to feel embarrassed in front of her coworkers. Her original plan had been to sit with her briefly and then take her home quietly.
She had not expected the drunken men to start making crude comments. And that man had even tried to touch her.
“I’m about to take Lucy home,” she added softly.
She assumed Julian was worried about his cousin.
Lucy, meanwhile, was completely drunk. She had already forgotten that she had slapped someone and nearly gotten Quinn hit in return.
If Julian had not arrived when he did, that slap would definitely have landed on Quinn.
Lucy giggled in Quinn’s arms, squirming restlessly.
Quinn was barely managing to hold her upright. Julian reached out and grabbed Lucy’s arm.
“Stand up straight,” he said.
His voice carried the familiar cold authority Lucy had grown up fearing. Even through the alcohol haze, that instinctive fear kicked in.
She struggled to stand upright and blinked at him. “Seven?”
“Can you walk?” Julian asked.
Lucy nodded vigorously.
“Yup…”
Before she finished speaking, her body tipped sideways. Quinn had already let go when Julian grabbed her, assuming he had her.
The moment Lucy began falling, Quinn reached out to steady her. At the exact same moment, Julian did
the same.
Neither of them caught Lucy. Justead. Quinn’s hand landed squarely on the back of Julian’s hand
She had reached forward with momentum while trying to grab Lucy.

In that instant. Quinn almost failed to suppress the instinctive reaction that surged through her, a wave of disgust, fear, and revulsion crashing through her body.
