Chapter 67 An Unexpected Concern
The elevator was empty.
Finished
Lucy had been noisy all evening, but now that the excitement had worn off, she finally quieted down.
Quinn lowered her gaze to Lucy’s soft leather ankle boots, doing her best to pretend Julian wasn’t standing there with them.
Unfortunately, the elevator cabin was small, and Julian’s presence was impossible to ignore.
The faint, cool scent he always carried seemed to fill the entire space, wrapping around her before she could escape it.
Julian suddenly spoke. “Are you staying here again tonight?”
Quinn had not expected that question. She paused for a second and nodded. “Yeah.”
“Do you have anywhere else to stay?”
“Huh?” Quinn blinked, caught off guard.
What did he mean? Did he not want me staying at Lucy’s place anymore?
“You’ve been crashing at Lucy’s for a while,” Julian continued. “That’s not exactly a long term solution.”
Quinn said, “I’ve already started looking for apartments. Once I find something suitable, I’ll move out. Don’t worry, I won’t be imposing on Lucy much longer.”
Julian frowned. That was not what he meant at all.
Earlier tonight he had seen the way Lucy kept grabbing Quinn’s arm and leaning all over her. The image still bothered him.
Lucy usually seemed polite and well behaved.
Why is she suddenly so touchy? When did she start doing that?
A thought suddenly crossed his mind.
Wait… is she into women?
Once that idea took hold, Julian felt even less inclined to explain himself.
“Yeah,” he said. “You should probably move out soon.”
Quinn did not say anything else and simply nodded.
The elevator reached the floor.
Quinn helped Lucy steady herself and turned back toward Julian. “Thank you again tonight. You should head home and get some rest.”

Julian watched her move toward the door, but something suddenly bothered him.
He could not help asking. “You two…. sleep in the same bed?”
Quinn froze. She had not expected such a strange question.
Finished
“Well… yeah,” she said. “Lucy only has one bed in her place.”
Julian’s brows knit together, but he did not say anything further. Quinn really did not want to keep talking.
She helped Lucy stand straight and gestured toward the door. “Then… I’ll close the door now?”
“Go ahead,” Julian said. Then after a short pause he added, “Stay safe.”
“Goodnight.”
Quinn said it quickly and shut the door. Only then did she finally breathe out in relief.
Julian stood outside for a few seconds before turning toward the elevator.
After he went downstairs and got into his car, his phone rang. He answered.
Zeke’s voice came through immediately. “Are you coming or not? What happened to you? Did you take a detour through Antarctica or something?”
“I’m not coming.” Julian replied.
“What?” Zeke sounded confused. “You’re not coming anymore? Did the girl suddenly stop being interesting?”
“I’m hanging up.”

The line went dead.
Zeke stared at his phone, baffled. “What just happened?”
Dylan Mercer shrugged. “Looks like that girl wasn’t all that charming after all.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” Zeke set his phone down. “I’m going to the restroom.”
The restaurant was not particularly upscale, and the restrooms were outside the private dining rooms.
Zeke opened the door and deliberately glanced toward the main dining area.
But Quinn was not there.
He walked a little farther and looked carefully at the table.
Not only was Quinn gone, Lucy was gone too.
They left already? When did that happen?

Is that why Julian suddenly decided not to come?
But how did he even know Quinn had already left?
The question gnawed at him. Unable to resist, he called Julian again. The line was busy.
At that exact moment, Julian was on another call.

“Check if there are any properties available in Willow Heights,” Julian told his assistant. “If there aren’t, buy one. At least twenty two hundred square feet.”
The assistant quickly searched the records.
“You already own property in Willow Heights,” the assistant replied. “One of the units is a large single floor apartment. about twenty eight hundred square feet.”
“Alright. I know which one you mean.”
Willow Heights was the same residential community where Lucy currently lived.
After ending the call, Julian rubbed his temples.
What is going on with Lucy? Wait, is she actually into women?
He had never felt this unsettled before.

If it were not inappropriate for a man to stay overnight in a woman’s apartment, he might have moved into Lucy’s place tonight just to keep an eye on things.
And make sure she stayed far away from Quinn.
He picked up his phone again and called Veronica.
Veronica had just finished arguing with her husband, and her tone was sharp when she answered.
“What is it?”
“Why are you so fired up?” Julian asked calmly.
“No,” Veronica replied, taking a breath. “Just in a bad mood. Why are you calling this late? What’s going on?”
“If something’s wrong, tell me,” Julian said. “I’ll deal with it for you.”
“That’s good to hear,” Veronica said. “If I need help, I’ll call you.”
“Alright.” Julian paused. “Does Lucy have a boyfriend?”
“Lucy? No.”
“Has she ever dated anyone?”
“Not that I know of.” Veronica sounded puzzled. “Why are you suddenly interested in her love life?”

“She’s never dated anyone at all?”
Finished
“She’s still young.” Veronica said. “And honestly, you’re older than her. Have you ever dated anyone?” “I haven’t,” Julian replied, “but my orientation and my views on relationships are perfectly normal.” “What does that mean?” Veronica asked. “Are you saying Lucy isn’t normal?”
“You’re her cousin. You should talk to her about this,” Julian said seriously. “Make sure she doesn’t get herself into trouble. You understand?”
Veronica almost laughed in disbelief. “Where did you even hear something like that? What makes you think Lucy’s doing anything wrong? Don’t go around saying things like that. You could seriously hurt her reputation.”
