Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 113

Camilla always thought someone like Lambert lived by a strict social code. The people around him were probably just like him, successful, respected, maybe even intimidating. Naturally, he must believe Catheleen should only make friends with people from the same world—good families, polished reputations.

In his eyes, women like her, who came from less and had a divorce in their past, probably didn’t deserve Catheleen’s friendship at all.

She hesitated, biting her lip before finally saying, “Mr. White, I don’t know how you see me. But before Catheleen and I became friends, I had no idea who her family was. I like her for who she is, not because of her background.”

Lambert’s frown only grew deeper. She said she liked Catheleen.

“It’s not about her family... I didn’t try to get close to her for that,” she added quickly.

Lambert understood and immediately jumped in. “That’s not what I was saying...”

The door opened before he could explain. Catheleen stepped in, her voice bright, pushing aside any tension. “I’m back! Cammie, how do you feel?”

Camilla gave her a smile. “So much better. The fever’s gone down.”

“That’s great.” Catheleen turned to Lambert, “And you? Any better?”

Not really. He actually felt worse, but the chance to talk was gone now that Catheleen was here.

He cleared his throat. “Go buy something for me.”

Catheleen looked at him, confused. “Buy what? Couldn’t you ask the bodyguard?”

“I want you to go.” His voice left no room for questions. “You know that pastry shop on the west side?”

Catheleen looked shocked. “That’s all the way across town!”

“Pick out some of their best pastries. Just go,” Lambert said simply.

“But I just got back..." Catheleen muttered under her breath, but she didn’t dare resist him.

She looked up. “Then… Why did you want me to move out before? You said I shouldn’t live with Catheleen, but later you said I should take care of her…”

Lambert answered honestly. “At first, I thought her place was too small for two people. That’s why I got you both a bigger apartment. It’d be more comfortable for each of you, give you privacy.”

Camilla almost couldn’t believe it. For a second, she thought she’d misheard him. She glanced at Lambert, catching his gaze. His eyes were dark, and somehow, she sensed something tender there. But he couldn’t say it, and she couldn’t quite grasp it.

All he said was, “You’re Catheleen’s friend. That makes you different from everyone else to me. She’s my little sister, so I’ll look out for you—just like family.”

Family…

The word alone felt unbearably warm. Just hearing it made something soft bloom quietly in her chest.

Camilla found herself so envious of Catheleen.
