Lambert was, in her eyes, the best man on earth. Handsome, successful, no messy rumors trailing behind him. What mattered most was that he seemed to have feelings for Camilla. If Camilla actually ended up with him, it would only bring the two of them closer together. Honestly, what could be better?
“Cammie, you’ve got Lambert’s number, right?” she asked.
“Can’t you just get it for me?” Camilla replied.
Catheleen made a face. “You know how nervous I get around him. I barely have the nerve to message him myself. Cammie, Lambert isn’t going to bite, seriously. Just reach out to him. Don’t put me on the spot like this.”
Camilla just shook her head. “I don’t want to talk to him.”
Catheleen stared at her. “Why not?” Then she started listing all of Lambert's virtues. “Lambert only seems cold on the surface, but he’s actually really kind. He’s never even dated anyone before. He’s super innocent!”
Innocent? Camilla’s mind flashed back to that intense, all-consuming kiss. Not exactly the word she’d use for him. The memory was almost too much… The way he kissed her, it was like he wanted to swallow her whole. How could anyone call that innocent?
Catheleen kept trying. “Trust me, if you just give him a chance, you’ll see—he’s got a lot going for him.”
“I’m not interested,” Camilla said, straightforward as ever. “I know Lambert is a great guy. I get you’re trying to help, but, Catheleen, I’ll tell you now—he’s just not my type. I’ll never fall for him.”
Catheleen looked genuinely disappointed. “You don’t even like someone like Lambert? Then who do you like?”
Camilla thought for a moment before answering. “Someone gentle. Refined. Considerate. Is Lambert any of those?”
Not even close.
Catheleen let out a sigh, unable to hide her letdown. “Okay, fair. But you’ve never mentioned you liked that type before.”
“Well, now you know. So, can you ask him for his measurements?”
“Alright, alright, I’ll do it.”
Catheleen whipped out her phone and sent a quick text to Lambert.
Once he put his phone down, he couldn’t help frowning. Gentle? Refined? He’d seen her a few times. In what way had he not acted gentle or refined? He honestly had no idea how intimidating he came off as, and he got lost in his own thoughts.
Catheleen sent a few more messages, but Lambert ignored them.
When Camilla woke up from her nap, she felt a lot better. She stepped out of her room, and Catheleen told her, “Cammie, I messaged Lambert for the measurements, but he’s not answering me.”
“How come?” Camilla asked.
“No idea,” Catheleen said. “So, what should we do?”
Camilla just shrugged. “Guess I’ll have to do it myself.”
She still needed to head back to The Green Family’s place later and didn’t spend much time talking. After grabbing her things, she headed out the door.
She definitely wasn’t expecting to find Lambert waiting downstairs.
