Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 122

Camilla took a step back before she even realized she was moving.

Lambert’s voice was calm but edged with something sharper. “Cammie, it’s not really fair to say yes one minute, then take it back the next, is it?”

All Camilla could offer was a quiet, “I’m sorry…”

Lambert didn’t lose his patience. “It’s fine. I’m not going to pressure you. Take all the time you need, that’s all I’m asking. Isn’t that enough?”

If anyone else had been there, they probably wouldn’t have believed what they were hearing. Lambert always had the upper hand. People usually rushed to give Lambert what he wanted. With Camilla, he was the one waiting.

But here he was, head bowed a little, voice softening, just for her—for one promise.

For a second, Camilla felt completely helpless. Someone like Lambert, letting down his guard like this? She wasn’t sure how to handle it.

Her words stuck, but she forced them out anyway. “But…I don’t know when I’ll be ready…”

“That’s okay.” Lambert’s reply came without hesitation, gentle and certain. “I can wait,” Lambert said simply. “Take the time you need.”

If anyone else had overheard that, they would have been shocked. When had Lambert White ever been so patient, so humble?

Camilla didn’t feel flattered, though. Instead, she just felt nervous, maybe even a little overwhelmed.

She couldn’t stop herself from asking, “Why?”

Lambert looked at her, but hesitated. He couldn’t tell her the truth. Not now, not with the timing all wrong. She wasn’t even divorced yet—he didn’t want to add any more pressure.

So he just said, “Because… you’re Catheleen’s friend.”

“That’s it? Just because of that?” She didn’t sound convinced.

Lambert nodded. “That’s it. Just that.”

Everything about him—his words, his steady expression, even his eyes—seemed believable, impossible to doubt.

Camilla’s will to argue just drained away. She was too tired to protest anymore.

Adah nudged her forward. “Why are you just standing there? Come on, dinner’s ready. Daniel’s been waiting for you.”

Camilla stumbled from the push, but when she caught her balance, she spun around, ready to leave.

Adah grabbed her arm. “What’s wrong with you? He came all the way here. Are you really going to act like this?”

Camilla stared at her, voice cold but steady. “I told you, I want a divorce. How many times do I have to say it?”

“Divorce isn’t something you just say and it happens. Daniel is a good man. If you leave him, do you really think you’ll find someone better?”

Camilla’s patience broke. “What’s so amazing about him? The emotional cheating, or the way he sells his wife for a little bit of glory? Mom, you’re a professor. Do I really need to explain basic morals to you?”

“How dare you!”

Lean stormed over, pointing accusingly. “Is that any way to talk to your mother? Where are your manners?”
