Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 15

Camilla kept the spark of surprise tucked away in her eyes.

When they’d crossed paths the other day, she’d picked up on his aura instantly. It was clear as day he came from money or power. Today, she finally learned his name. Lambert. Head of the White family.

The Whites were old money. Even when the rest of the world was turned upside down, their family never lost its footing. Generations ago, they donated a fortune and supplies during the war. The government had always spoken well of them, and that kind of goodwill helped their empire grow, bigger and stronger with each passing year.

Everything seemed to get even more unstoppable after Lambert took over. He turned their business into a true empire.

Camilla had heard his name plenty of times before. Everyone had. It almost echoed like legend. She never thought she’d actually meet him, though, not in this lifetime.

So when the man and the name finally matched up, it caught her off guard. She felt that tickle of surprise, almost a silent, “Wait, him?”

She’d sometimes wondered what a guy like that would look like. In her mind, he was always older, serious, the kind of man who commanded a room just by walking in. Stern. Regal. She never pictured someone young and jaw-droppingly handsome. He looked maybe two or three years older than Daniel, if that.

Standing here now, looking at him, she felt like it made more sense than she’d expected. It was as if someone with his status was always meant to have a face like his.

Still, most people meeting Lambert for the first time probably didn’t even register how striking he was. That air of authority, the confidence rolling off him, eclipsed everything else about his appearance.

But if you ignored that looming presence for a second, just focused on his face, Lambert could make any regular guy’s confidence crumble to dust by comparison.

“What are you spacing out for?” Daniel’s voice cut in, sharp and low right by her ear.

Daniel looked ready to explode. This was Lambert. The man who could decide the fate of their family’s business with a single word. Daniel wasn’t expecting Camilla to pull off some miracle performance and charm everyone, but the least she could do was stay sharp, right? And here she was, just staring like a deer in headlights.

Camilla snapped back, but before she could say anything, Lambert’s eyes slid over to her. Calm, cool, impossible to read.

He spoke first.

Daniel knew his own place in this world. Chatting casually with someone like Lambert wasn’t on the table. In fact, just standing here made him tense all over.

So as soon as the introductions were done, he jumped in. “We’ll get out of your way. You must be busy. Come on, Camilla.” He practically whisked her away.

Once they were gone, Faust rubbed his jaw, half to himself. “Hard to believe Daniel landed a wife that gorgeous... Seriously. But hey, where are you off to?”

Lambert was heading for the stairs. “I’ve got an email I need to take care of.”

“You just got down here…” Faust trailed after him. “You’re the host! Everyone’s waiting for a chance to cozy up to you.”

“Not interested,” Lambert said over his shoulder.

Faust couldn’t help but ask, curiosity getting the better of him. “So why’d you come down at all? Honestly, what’s the point of even throwing this party?”
