Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 168

All Lambert cared about was whether Camilla had gotten enough rest to handle the night.

He glanced down at her and asked, “Catheleen brought you here, didn’t she?”

Afraid Catheleen would get in trouble, Camilla hurriedly explained, “I heard things were really lively tonight and wanted to check it out with Catheleen. Mr. White, please don’t blame her. It was all my idea.”

“You?” Lambert looked at her, his face giving nothing away. “Do you really think I’d buy that?”

After everything she’d been through, she kept her distance from men. There was no way she’d volunteer to hang out at a bar. It was obvious this had been Catheleen’s plan all along.

“It’s not your fault, so don’t apologize,” Lambert told her evenly. “Come upstairs with me?”

Camilla was still shaken by the man she’d run into by the restroom. There was no way she was staying down here by herself.

She gave a quick nod. “Okay.”

Lambert moved forward, but kept a solid space between them.

Camilla led the way, while he stayed just behind and off to the side, close enough to watch over her but not so close as to make her feel awkward.

Up ahead, a tipsy guy came stumbling around the corner.

Lambert reacted instantly, grabbing Camilla’s arm and pulling her back.

Lost in her thoughts, she hadn’t seen the guy coming and nearly collided with him. Suddenly, a strong hand tugged her off balance and she landed right against Lambert’s chest.

The drunk teetered in their direction. Lambert’s hand slid to her waist and, with a quick turn, he whisked her out of the way.

They managed to dodge the drunk, but now Camilla was practically pressed up against him.

As soon as they were clear, Lambert let go and took a step back, putting space between them again.

All around, the air was thick with cigarette smoke and spilled drinks, but for a split second, Camilla could only smell the clean, crisp scent of his cologne—cool pine, refreshing and sharp against the murky air.

It wasn’t until then that it hit her: Lambert had just held her close.

With Lambert around, the energy shifted for a bit, everyone a little more reserved. But it didn’t take long for someone to try and stir things up, pushing Catheleen to get Lambert in on a game of Truth or Dare.

Catheleen rolled her eyes. “Aren’t we all a bit old for that? Seriously, so lame.”

Garrison laughed. “It’s a classic. How’s that lame?”

He shot her a look, eyebrows wiggling, making it clear there was more going on here.

Catheleen caught on fast. Obviously, they weren’t interested in the game itself, but this was their shot at getting Lambert to spill on things they’d never dare ask him straight up.

She clapped her hands, deciding to go along with it. “Alright, I’m in! Let’s play!”

Everyone knew the drill. An empty bottle, a quick spin on the table. Whoever the bottle pointed at had to answer a question or take a dare.

Who could’ve guessed—on its very first spin, the bottle landed right on Camilla.
