Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 18

Camilla looked over at Daniel.

He avoided her eyes, his whole posture shrinking like he wanted to disappear.

Everyone on this yacht was wealthy, influential, or both. She knew better than to make enemies here. But Daniel was supposed to be her husband, at least on paper. Right now, he didn’t have an ounce of courage. Camilla couldn’t believe she’d ever thought this man was someone to trust for life. How blind had she been?

She cleared her throat, keeping her tone even and cool. “Owen, I’m sorry, but I’m not a doctor. I really don’t know how to take care of others, so I don’t think I can help. A party this big probably has medical staff. If you want, I can help you find them.”

Daniel jumped in, eager to please. “Yeah, yeah, let me help you look for them.”

Owen shot him a glare. “This doesn’t concern you. Get lost.”

Daniel immediately sensed trouble. He tried to smooth things over. “Owen, my wife isn’t very experienced with social stuff. If she upset you, she didn’t mean it…”

“I told you to get lost. Don’t you understand?”

Daniel hesitated, clearly struggling, but in the end he didn’t dare to stand up to Owen. He turned to Camilla and muttered, “It’s a privilege for you that Owen asked for your help. Why don’t you go and see what he needs?”

Then he left without another word.

Camilla stared at his back as he walked away, her mind blank for a second. Was he really leaving? Just like that? Leaving her alone with Owen?

“Camilla, come with me,” Owen said, his smile spreading. It somehow made her feel even more uneasy.

Something in the way he watched her made her nerves tighten, as if the air had turned sharp.

“I said I’m not going,” Camilla replied, standing her ground. “You’re not the kind of person who forces people, right, Owen?”

Camilla knew Daniel hadn’t defended her, but she refused to believe he’d left her on purpose for something like this.

“You don’t believe me?” Owen pressed. “I can bring him back and have him say it right here.”

That thought stunned her, but only for a moment. She shook her head, fiercely. “No. That isn’t possible. He’d never do that to me.”

No matter how spineless Daniel was, there was no way he’d hand his wife over to another man. He couldn’t be that low.

“Don’t kid yourself.” Owen grabbed her wrist before she could pull away.

His fingers pressed against her skin, lingered there, and she could sense his interest growing.

“Come with me,” he murmured, leaning in so close that she could feel his breath. “I’m a Gates,” Owen murmured. “Say yes, and you won’t have to worry about anything again.”
