While en route to Catheleen's apartment, Lambert made a quick call to Latonia George.
He had drank heavily the night before. While he hadn't gotten blackout drunk, a pounding headache and a crushing weight in his chest had kept him awake until dawn.
After his morning workout, he had immediately contacted Owen Gates.
For a normal person, Owen's current life abroad would be considered a dream. But for a billionaire playboy used to extreme luxury and endless partying, this "exile" wasn't just a downgrade—it felt like living in the dark ages. But his family had issued strict orders, and he was terrified of Lambert, so he didn't dare set foot back in the country.
When Owen received Lambert's call, a spark of desperate hope ignited. "Lambert! Have you finally forgiven me? Are you letting me come home?!"
Hearing Owen's whining voice only made Lambert's temples throb harder. "I'm sending someone to pick you up. Once you're back, I'll put you somewhere secure. You stay completely out of sight. Can you handle that?"
As long as he could escape that godforsaken sandy wasteland, Owen would agree to anything. "Yes! Yes! Absolutely! As long as you let me leave, I'll do whatever you want!"
Lambert had zero patience for his theatrics. "My people will contact you."
He ended the call abruptly.
Later, sitting in his corporate office, he found himself zoning out over his paperwork for the first time in his career.
Camilla's divorce couldn't be delayed any longer. Bringing Owen back meant having a key witness ready the second they needed him. If it turned out they didn't need his testimony, Lambert would just ship him right back overseas.
He had a meeting scheduled shortly, but then Catheleen had called.
Honestly, Lambert had no idea what he would even say to Camilla. He just desperately needed to see her.
He used to mock men who pathetically chased after women who had already rejected them. Why humiliate yourself?
But now, the joke was on him.
She had literally told him she hated him, and he still refused to let go. He was actually using a pair of forgotten cufflinks as an excuse to show up at her door.
