She couldn't shake the feeling that Lambert was in a rush. He clearly wanted to get this suit fitting over with so he wouldn't have to deal with her anymore. It was obvious that her brutal rejection yesterday had severely wounded his male pride.
Camilla couldn't quite pinpoint the heavy, hollow feeling in her chest. Everything was going exactly according to plan. She was getting exactly what she wanted.
But she was utterly miserable.
Honestly, what woman wouldn't be drawn to a man like Lambert? He was practically intoxicating. But the chasm between their worlds was far too wide. He was completely out of her league, and she knew a relationship was an absolute impossibility.
Rejecting him was easy enough to say out loud, but the suffocating wave of despair that followed was something she had to endure completely alone. She had no one to confide in. She just had to bury it deep.
After calming her racing heart, she dialed Susan's number.
What Camilla didn't know was that Susan had just gotten off the phone with Lambert moments prior. The second Lambert stepped out of the apartment building, he had called Susan, briefed her on the situation, and boldly confessed his intentions toward Camilla.
So, when Camilla asked about the studio, Susan enthusiastically replied, "Of course, dear! Whenever works for you. You name the time."
Camilla's biggest source of panic was the physical measuring process. The required intimacy and physical contact were more than she could handle.
She quickly added, "Susan, when it's time to measure Mr. White, could you please do it for me?"
"Oh, honey," Susan sighed dramatically. "My eyesight is failing me these days. How could I possibly do it accurately?"
It was true that Susan rarely took on new clients anymore. The atelier wasn't run for profit; it was purely a passion project. They already had all their returning clients' measurements on file, only making minor adjustments when necessary. Camilla was the one who usually handled all the hands-on measuring for the shop.
"Don't you have his measurements on file?" Camilla pleaded. "Can't I just use those as a reference?"
