Catheleen hopped up to grab another pint of ice cream from the freezer.
Camilla took it, murmured a quiet thanks, and frowned. "Wait, what did you just say? Lambert?"
"You don't remember?" Catheleen asked, pausing. "He drove us home last night."
Camilla blanked.
Catheleen had spent the entire morning drafting a dramatic speech about the evils of men, fully prepared to expose her cousin's predatory behavior. But seeing Camilla's genuine confusion, she blinked. "You seriously forgot?"
"I... I don't remember much," Camilla admitted, shaking her head. "Did I pass out? Did I fall asleep?"
"Pretty much." Catheleen stared at her closely. "You really have zero memory of last night? I thought you didn't black out when you drank."
"I don't know," Camilla mumbled, digging her spoon into the ice cream. The icy sweetness coated her raw throat, and she let out a sigh of relief. Then her eyes widened. "Wait, he brought us home? Why was he even there?"
Catheleen felt a pang of guilt. "He... he said he was just passing by. Just a coincidence."
"Oh." Camilla didn't want to think about Lambert, so she dropped it. "This ice cream is amazing."
"Right?" Catheleen eagerly latched onto the subject change. "There are a bunch of flavors! I know strawberry is your favorite, but you should try the others too."
Camilla quickly polished off the first pint, still craving more.
Watching her eat, Catheleen couldn't help but stare at Camilla's lips—still slightly plump—and the memory of last night resurfaced.
If Camilla genuinely didn't remember, should she even bring it up?
If she told her, Camilla would just be stressed and upset.
But if she didn't, Lambert got away with practically eating her best friend's face for free.
Seeing how relaxed Camilla looked right now, Catheleen sighed internally.
Ignorance is bliss.
