Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 27

“Just hang in there.”

His voice was deep to begin with, but now it was rougher, almost cracking.

He said the words to the woman in his arms, but honestly, he was the one struggling to hold himself back.

Camilla was out of it, dazed and drugged, running on nothing but instinct. Whatever she did to him, he could understand.

But he was absolutely sober. If he let himself take advantage of her, that would make him the worst kind of person, someone who preyed on others’ weakness.

That kiss he’d just stolen felt impossible to resist... and already, he knew he’d crossed a line. He'd disrespected her.

He couldn’t let himself go any further.

Still, his heart wouldn’t slow down, no matter how hard he tried.

Camilla was wrapped up in nothing, practically naked right there in his arms.

He told himself not to look, that it would be wrong, but he couldn’t help it.

She was right there. He had seen her, he had kissed her...

But she was married. She belonged to someone else.

The heat in Lambert’s eyes finally dimmed, and he started to get control over himself again.

He quit fighting those urges, quit hesitating, and just reached for a bath towel to wrap her up as tightly as he could. He left her in the tub, water lapping around her.

All Camilla could manage was to move her head. She was uncomfortable and totally helpless.

She forced her eyes partway open, her vision watery and blurred. All she could make out was the insanely tall, impossibly handsome man beside her, almost like a figure from a dream.

Lambert tried not to look, turned away, but he glanced back at her just a moment later.

Her eyes were clouded and red at the corners. When she looked up at him, there was something soft and open in her gaze, like she was asking for something without saying a word.

For the first time in his life, Lambert wondered if his self-control was all it was cracked up to be.

Or maybe, when it came to her, he didn’t have any at all.

He reached out and gently covered her eyes with his hand. “Just a little longer. I promise.”

Camilla seemed to get it somehow. She tipped her chin up and brushed it against his palm, restless and needy.

The brush of her lashes against his palm sent a shiver down his spine.

He figured the yacht must have docked by now. Why hadn’t Galen shown up yet?

Faust nodded. “Don’t worry. I already took care of it. Daniel and Owen...”

“Keep them aside for now,” Lambert interrupted. “I’ll deal with that after this.”

He closed the door with a bang and turned to Galen. “Go see to her.”

Galen had handled cases like this before. Faust had already called ahead and filled him in.

Taking out an IV kit, Galen looked back at Lambert.

“What needs to happen?” Lambert asked quietly. “Does she need an IV?”

“Yes,” Galen confirmed. “Give me her hand.”

Truthfully, Galen had been shocked before ever stepping onto the yacht. Faust told him that Lambert was interested in a woman, and even just from Faust’s voice, he could tell this was a big deal.

How could he not be surprised himself?

He’d worked for the Whites his whole life, watched Lambert grow up.

Lambert had always been calm and serious. When he matured and took over everything for the Whites, he became even more distant, formal, rarely letting anyone see any emotion at all.
