"I..."
When she failed to come up with a defense, Lambert knew he had hit the nail on the head.
"Camilla."
He used her full name again.
Camilla couldn't hold it back anymore. "Maybe you don't care about what people say, but I do."
She didn't care if people gossiped about her; she cared if they dragged his name through the mud.
He was flawless, perfect in every way. The thought of him becoming the center of a scandal because of her made her stomach turn.
Lambert let out a heavy sigh.
He leaned in, reaching out to stroke her hair.
But just as his fingers were about to brush her scalp, he stopped.
Camilla looked at him, her eyes wide with confusion.
"Still disgusted by my hands?" Lambert teased. "The hands that... touched your feet?"
What kind of weird logic loop was that?
Camilla fought back a smile.
Her eyes sparkled, shining like shattered stars under the hospital lights.
Lambert desperately wanted to pull her into his arms and kiss her senseless, but he forced himself to hold back.
Instead, he gently rested his hand on the top of her head, giving her a soft pat.
Camilla suddenly remembered she hadn't washed her hair in two days.
She instantly shrank back, dodging his touch.
"Still disgusted?" Lambert raised an eyebrow.
Camilla quickly changed the subject. "Please, just let the private caregiver take over. Is that okay?"
Lambert couldn't stand seeing her look so desperate.
He thought for a second. "Fine. I'll head to the office now and come back tonight. If you say no, I'm staying right here."
Having him here just for the evening was vastly better than dealing with him twenty-four hours a day.
Camilla nodded frantically. "Deal!"
