Seeing Camilla stay silent while her face burned red, Catheleen's eyes widened with intense curiosity. "Did you guys... kiss? Or..."
"What is wrong with your brain!" Camilla turned her face away, even her earlobes burning. "Of course not!"
And they really hadn't.
When Lambert arrived the previous evening, he had brought dinner with him.
He had ordered it from an exclusive private kitchen restaurant, specifically asking the head chef to prepare a meal just for her.
Because of her condition, she was strictly limited to light, easily digestible foods.
The second Lambert walked in, he dismissed the private caregiver for the night.
Camilla had washed her hair and had a sponge bath that morning. Her wound was healing nicely, and she was feeling infinitely more like herself.
Watching Lambert lower his gaze, his long, elegant fingers carefully arranging the silverware and dishes on her bedside table, Camilla had felt a strange wave of dizziness.
It was as if... they were already together. No, like they had been together for years. It felt like they were an old married couple, settling into a quiet, beautiful domestic routine.
The mere thought had made Camilla's cheeks flush violently.
When Lambert finished setting out the food, he looked up and caught sight of her radiant, pink-tinted skin.
"Hungry?" Lambert was terrible at reading a woman's mind. Seeing her staring at the food, he assumed she was starving. "Try a bit of everything, but don't stuff yourself."
"This is way too much food," Camilla blurted out, staring at the lavish spread. "How am I supposed to finish all this?"
"You have me." Lambert placed a pair of chopsticks gently into her hand. "Eat."
Camilla blinked at him. "Have you not eaten yet?"
"I wanted to see you, so I drove straight to the restaurant the second my meeting ended. I didn't have time." Lambert pulled up a chair. "Besides, I wanted to eat with you."
Camilla had always assumed Lambert was a strict, traditional, and incredibly boring man.
She had never anticipated that he was a master at flirting.
He dropped romantic lines effortlessly, completely unbothered by how they sounded.
And the worst part was, he didn't even seem to realize he was doing it.
Which only made it infinitely more devastating to her heart.
