Camilla panicked and frantically reached for the serving utensils.
Lambert caught her hand, his long fingers wrapping warmly around hers. "No need to switch. I don't mind your germs."
"It's rude..." Camilla quickly pulled her hand back. "You can't do that."
"Why not?" Lambert held her gaze, his dark eyes gleaming. "We've already kissed. Isn't it a bit late to play the innocent card?"
Camilla's entire face burst into flames.
Satisfied with her reaction, Lambert used his own chopsticks to place a small, tender piece of lean meat into her bowl. "Go easy on the meat."
She still needed to stick to mostly digestible foods.
When Camilla just sat there staring at the bowl, he raised a brow. "Are my germs disgusting to you?"
Of course she didn't find him disgusting.
She just felt that they were absolutely nowhere near an intimacy level that justified sharing utensils.
Yes, they had kissed. Yes, they had cuddled...
But she had been black-out drunk and completely out of her mind during all of that.
In the harsh light of reality, there was no universe where she would ever initiate anything that intimate with Lambert.
Forget kissing or hugging him—she couldn't even make eye contact with him for more than three seconds without blushing furiously.
She had never truly understood what it meant to be passionately in love with someone before.
Her feelings for Daniel had been naïve and sheltered. Back then, she had just been happy to marry a man who seemed to care for her.
She had never experienced this suffocating, nerve-wracking tension.
Only now did she realize that true, heart-stopping chemistry meant just looking at a man filled her chest with a chaotic blend of intoxicating sweetness, crippling shyness, and pure panic.
"Are you going to eat it?" Lambert watched her closely. "If not, I'll take it back. Clearly, I haven't worked hard enough to earn Cammie's approval..."
Before he could finish his teasing, Camilla snatched the piece of meat with her chopsticks and shoved it into her mouth.
Lambert let out a low, rumbling laugh. "I guess I misunderstood. Cammie doesn't find me disgusting after all."
"Stop talking." Camilla wished she could bury her face in her rice bowl. "Just eat."
Instead, Lambert pushed his own bowl toward her. "An eye for an eye. Shouldn't Cammie serve me a piece too? Use your own chopsticks."
In the past, Camilla had idly daydreamed about what kissing Daniel would be like.
