He shook his head, helpless against her stubbornness. "You don't want to answer? Fine, I won't force you. But I need you to know that you never have to be afraid of me. No matter what happens, I will never force you to do anything. I will always respect your choices."

"Really?" She finally looked up, searching his eyes.

"I'm not like you," he teased gently. "Going back on my word the second I make a promise."

A flush crept up her neck, but she genuinely felt she had no other choice.

"Then I want to stay somewhere else," she insisted.

Lambert sighed again. "Just stay for tonight. I'll drive you wherever you want to go first thing in the morning, alright?"

The thought of sleeping in his bed sent a wave of heat through her body.
