Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 48

"Try not to stress," Latonia said. "But there's something else. I owe you an apology."

Camilla blinked at her, puzzled. "For what?"

"I set up a meeting with Lambert."

Camilla was on her feet in an instant.

Latonia reached for her arm. "Wait, just listen to me first."

A cold tremor ran through Camilla, and her legs threatened to give.

She remembered how sick she'd felt when Daniel touched her. This felt different, worse somehow.

Just hearing Lambert’s name made her want to crawl out of her skin.

"I don't want to see him..." Camilla's voice was shaking.

Latonia noticed right away something wasn't right. She stood up and pulled Camilla into her arms. "Camilla, what is it? You're trembling!"

Camilla's eyes filled with tears.

"Latonia, please, I don't want to see him." She wiped at her face with trembling hands, pushing Latonia away.

She grabbed her bag and jacket. "I'm sorry, Latonia. Pretend I was never here, okay?"

Without another word, she turned and left.

Latonia tried to hold her back. "Camilla! Alright, we won't see him, I promise. Don't be scared..."

"I'm serious," Camilla said, her eyes red as she looked at Latonia. "Thank you for everything, but just pretend you never met me."

She pulled away, opened the door, and left the room.

Latonia frowned but didn't chase after her.

She knew being honest about her connection to Lambert might end up like this. Deep down, she realized Camilla would never really believe she'd pick her over her own family.

On top of that, she had set up the meeting with Lambert without asking Camilla first. That only made things worse.

It really was her own careless mistake.

After all the awful things Camilla had been through, of course she didn't want to see a man who had hurt her. Latonia understood perfectly.

"It wasn't me."

Latonia stared at him, surprised. "What do you mean?"

Lambert let out a slow breath, clearly frustrated. "That night was all a misunderstanding. Daniel sent her to Owen's room, but I got there in time, so nothing happened to her."

"Is that really true?" Latonia frowned, thinking of what Camilla had told her. "But Camilla said she remembers what you did to her. Lambert, did you do anything physical to her, or not?"

Lambert had never felt shame before.

But right now, standing in front of his cousin, he had no idea how to admit how he lost control that night.

He had hugged Camilla, kissed her. He had seen everything.

Even if they hadn't gone all the way, he didn't know how to explain what had happened.

Latonia watched his face carefully, her trust starting to falter. "What happened, Lambert? Are you hiding something?"

Lambert gazed down, fiddling with his cufflinks, then turned toward the door. "I'll explain it to her myself."
