The heavy security door only made it halfway before it slammed to a halt.
Camilla glanced up. One of Lambert’s bodyguards stood in her doorway, his muscled arm blocking her escape.
She’d heard Lambert never went anywhere without security—some obvious, some not.
He was the kind of man who lived far above ordinary people. Trying to take him down was like standing in front of a freight train and thinking you could stop it.
“Mr. White.” Her voice was cool, her eyes cold. “What is it you’re trying to do? Are you breaking into my home now?”
“Can we talk?” Lambert’s gaze held steady on hers. “It’s about what happened on the yacht.”
Just hearing him say that sent a shiver through her body. She felt both scared and sick at the same time. She tried to swallow it down, but her face was getting paler by the second. “Mr. White, was what happened on the yacht not enough for you? Are you here to humiliate me again?”
“I think you’re misunderstanding…”
“Misunderstanding?” There was pure hatred in her eyes. “Are you saying you didn’t assault me?”
Lambert didn’t want to hash this out in front of everyone. “Can I come in? I promise I just need a few minutes. We need somewhere private to talk.”
“No,” Camilla said, turning her head away, refusing to look at him for even a second longer. “If you and your men don’t leave now, I’ll call the police.”
Lambert just stared at her, the tiniest trace of regret in his eyes. “It’s good you know how to stand up for yourself. If having the police here would make you feel safer, go ahead and call them.”
She looked at him, stunned for a second.
He met her gaze, completely unflinching. “Does that help you trust me even a little?”
“You want me to call the cops?” Her laugh was weak and bitter. “Right. Like the police would ever do anything to someone like you.”
The thought made his expression tighten.
Camilla came out of the bathroom, face even paler than before, but she hadn’t actually thrown up. She looked like she was made of paper.
Lambert spoke up. “Are you okay? Do you need to go to the hospital?”
She just dropped onto the sofa, drained, refusing to say a word.
The misunderstanding was the first thing he needed to deal with.
He said, “Nothing happened on the yacht, Camilla. Other than hugging you, and kissing you, I didn’t do anything else.”
Her head jerked up, eyes searching his face for any scrap of truth.
