Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 62

Camilla went still, caught off guard.

Catheleen looked just as surprised. “Lambert’s coming? That’s weird. What does he want? Does he even have time for this?”

To everyone, Lambert was that guy who was always drowning in work, never sparing a minute for anything that didn’t matter.

Latonia tried to explain. “He said he needed to talk with me about something urgent. I told him I was with you two and he said he’d drop by to meet us.”

Camilla stared down at her hands, not saying a word.

She still remembered how Lambert had shown up at her place to explain what happened. If she put everything else aside, he truly was the one who had gotten her away from Owen that night. If Lambert hadn’t come, there was no telling what might have happened with Owen.

From that angle, Lambert had saved her.

But every time she thought of him, she couldn’t help remembering that kiss. It had been so intense that thinking about it still made her feel off-balance.

All sorts of emotions twisted inside her chest. She really didn’t want to see him and had no clue how to act if she did.

Catheleen caught her expression and jumped in. “If Lambert’s coming to talk to you, we can give you guys some privacy. Cammie, should we go?”

Relief flooded Camilla’s face. “Yeah, let’s not get in the way of Latonia’s plans.”

Latonia felt panic rising. If Lambert arrived and found everyone gone, what was she supposed to say? She knew perfectly well Lambert wasn’t coming for her — he was coming for Camilla. If she didn’t help keep Camilla here, who knew how Lambert would take it?

Latonia hurried to clarify. “I told Lambert you both were here. He said he’d like to meet you guys too. Camilla, do you mind?”

Camilla stayed quiet.

Camilla nodded. “I’m fine. Plus, you’ll be right here, won’t you?”

Latonia tried to lighten the mood. “Why do you two look like you’re facing a firing squad? Catheleen, he’s your cousin, not some terrifying monster.”

Catheleen rolled her eyes. “He might be my brother, but Cammie barely knows him.”

While they were talking, the sound of someone at the door made everyone pause.

A few light knocks came, then the door opened. The bodyguard pushed it wider and stepped aside. Lambert walked in, tall and broad-shouldered. He had on his usual black suit, a black cashmere coat tossed over one arm. He filled the doorway, all sharp angles and quiet authority. With his quiet confidence and expensive polish, it wasn’t hard to see why the city watched him.

Catheleen was the first to speak up. “Lambert, you’re here.”

Lambert let his eyes linger on Camilla for a second before looking away. He gave a slight nod. “I hope I’m not intruding.”
