Divorce Him, Then Dazzle novel Chapter 93

Lambert’s change in attitude was so dramatic that Faust couldn’t help but laugh at him. Lambert just kept a straight face, letting Faust have his fun, but inside he was worried sick. Was Camilla feeling better? Why wasn’t she home resting? Why would she be out right now?

As for Faust, running into Camilla happened purely by chance. He’d planned to grab dinner with Lambert, but a last-minute errand came up. By the time he was done, he was starving and decided to try a restaurant near where he’d been, instead of his usual spot. He never imagined he’d run into Camilla there.

Earlier that day, after leaving the Register Office, Latonia had dropped Camilla off at Catheleen’s place and told her to get some rest. Camilla said goodbye and sent Catheleen a message asking when she’d be home. Catheleen replied that she was stuck working late and wouldn’t be back anytime soon.

Almost nine o’clock rolled around before Camilla finally got a message from Catheleen. She said she was at a restaurant, had had a few drinks, and needed Camilla to come pick her up. Camilla didn’t hesitate. Worried, she got there as fast as she could.

Catheleen had always moved through the world like consequences were something other people handled. They’d studied the same major in college, but after graduation, Catheleen went to work as a sales rep at a clothing factory. She claimed she wanted to learn the business from the ground up. Camilla didn’t really know how that was going for her, just that Catheleen’s job kept her working late and traveling a lot. It sounded exhausting. Still, Camilla was surprised Catheleen had stuck it out this long.

Dinners like this, with drinking and socializing for work, definitely weren’t new for Catheleen. What really confused Camilla was why she’d even signed up for a job like this at all. Catheleen came from a wealthy family, had always lived comfortably, so why choose to run herself ragged? The late nights were one thing; the drinking with clients was what made Camilla’s stomach knot. Mostly, she was worried about Catheleen’s safety.

Walking into the restaurant, Camilla spotted Catheleen immediately. She was sitting at a big table in the main hall, a whole group around her. Catheleen, with her sweet, doll-like looks, was almost impossible to miss. Tonight, her cheeks were flushed red from drinking, and her smile was loose and a little silly.

Camilla walked right up to her. “Catheleen.”

It took Catheleen a moment to respond. She lifted her chin, blinked a few times, and then, as if suddenly coming to, her eyes grew wide. “Cammie? What… what are you doing here?”

“How much did you drink?” Camilla asked gently, both worried and feeling a twinge of heartbreak seeing her friend like this. “You messaged me, remember?”

Catheleen shook her head, still a bit dazed. “I… didn’t…”

Someone else at the table, a man sitting beside her, spoke up. “Is this your friend, Catheleen? Tell her to sit down and eat with us.”

Not wanting to cause trouble for Catheleen, Camilla quickly spoke up. “It’s fine. I’ll just wait for her, and we’ll leave together.”

Oakley didn’t even hesitate. “That’s the spirit. Someone grab another chair.”

With that, Camilla found herself sitting right next to Catheleen.

Catheleen really couldn’t hold her liquor, but when Camilla arrived, she forced herself to pull it together. Most of her colleagues at the table were men, and it was hard not to notice the way they kept glancing at Camilla, their eyes practically shining with surprise and interest.

Faust walked in just then and instantly noticed Camilla. He also saw Catheleen, of course.
