Felix didn’t stop to think. He took the stairs two at a time, checking every bedroom one by one. He rummaged through the master bedroom and the guest rooms-turned them upside down, even-but there was no sign of Quinn anywhere.
Panic gnawed at him. He grabbed his phone, his fingers shaking as he dialed Quinn’s number.
A cold, mechanical voice came through the line, “Sorry, the number you are calling is not available at the moment…”
He refused to give up. He dialed twice more, persistent as ever. But by the third try, the line went straight to voicemail-her phone was off.
Felix held the phone in his hand, frozen in place. A sharp, overwhelming sense of unease washed over him.
Meanwhile, Quinn dragged her exhausted body to the luxury, ultra-private hotel under Reed Group. Tucked away from the city’s hustle and bustle, it was like a carefully polished pearl- quiet, elegant, and the last place Felix would ever think to look for her.
Quinn stepped into the exquisitely decorated room. She tossed her bag onto the soft king-sized bed and collapsed onto it, a wave of relief washing over her.
She pulled out her phone and hit the power button without hesitation. It was like shutting off the device would block out all the terrible things that had happened at the gala that night.
But the peace didn’t last long. Suddenly, the room phone rang with a shrill, piercing “ring-ring- ring.”
Quinn frowned, a flicker of annoyance crossing her face. But she forced herself up, walked over to the phone, and lifted the receiver slowly. Her voice was distant and cold. “Hello, I don’t need any room service right now.”
A brief silence fell on the other end, like an invisible current hanging in the air.
After a moment, a low chuckle echoed through the line. It was deep and magnetic, like a feather brushing gently against her heart.
“Why’s your phone off?” The voice was cool, but there was a hint of concern in it.
When Quinn heard that familiar voice, her furrowed brows smoothed out instantly. But there was still a trace of uncertainty in her eyes. She tilted her head slightly and asked softly, “Peyton? How do you know this room’s phone number?”
Peyton seemed to have expected that question. He replied calmly, unhurriedly, “This is my

permanent suite. Of course I know the number. Don’t forget-you’re going to be the future. Mrs. Reed. The staff here all recognize you, and they know exactly what to do.”
His voice was steady and confident, like he had everything under control.
Quinn froze for a second. She hadn’t expected Peyton to bring up that identity so directly.
In her memory, Peyton had always been a low-key, mysterious man-not at all like the cold, unfeeling figure people talked about.

Outside, Mia held a takeout box steadily in her hands, her eyes filled with concern.
When Quinn opened the door and saw Mia, she froze for a split second. Then she frowned, her voice a mix of reproach and affection. “I told you to go home and rest. Why did you come all the way here?”
A warm smile tugged at Mia’s lips. Her eyes were sincere and determined. “Miss Hart, I figured you were so busy at the gala tonight that you probably didn’t get a chance to eat anything.”
