Chapter 106 Miracles Depend on Her

Finished

Even though Peyton had been swamped lately, the specialists he’d contacted earlier said they’d be available. these days. He knew this matter couldn’t be delayed any longer.

Rehabilitation training would give Wendy something to occupy her time. That way, she wouldn’t overthink things all day.

“Peyton, will you really come with me in person?” Wendy asked. “If you’re there with me, I’ll go.”

But she had no desire to do rehabilitation. She wanted to stay in that wheelchair for the rest of her life. Only then could she keep him feeling guilty forever-ensuring he’d never abandon her.

“Of course,” Peyton replied.

He was a man of great responsibility. This was his first meeting with the doctors, and he needed to be present. He wouldn’t feel at ease until everything was properly arranged.

“Okay, then I’ll see you tomorrow,” Wendy said.

Now that they’d agreed, she felt much more at peace just thinking about seeing him the next day. She could finally fall asleep without that empty feeling in her chest.

Before she knew it, morning arrived.

Peyton left his house bright and early. Before heading out, he sent Quinn a text, telling her what he had planned for the day.

They were going to get married soon. He was often busy and away from home, but it was only right to keep her informed in advance.

After leaving home, he met the scheduled doctors first, then took Wendy to a private rehabilitation hospital.

Wendy panicked as soon as she saw the doctors. She was truly scared of medical appointments-not pretending. The fear came straight from her heart.

“Peyton, I’ve had so many tests over the years. I’m traumatized,” she begged. “Can we stop here? I really can’t take it anymore!”

“Just looking at these cold machines scares me. Can’t we skip this? You can give them the old scans instead,” she pleaded.

Wendy stepped back instinctively. Over the years, she’d endured a lot of pain and despair-there was no avoiding that. It was why Peyton felt so guilty toward her.

“The old scans are useless now,” Peyton said gently. “Your body has changed since then. You just need to cooperate with a quick check. It won’t hurt at all. I’ll stay with you the whole time.”

They were at a private hospital, so the service was very personalized and humanized.

With Peyton by her side, Wendy felt a little braver-less terrified than before.

She should have started rehabilitation a long time ago. If she’d cooperated back then, her chances of

recovery would have been much higher, and she might have healed faster.

But Wendy had refused to cooperate back then, scared of the pain and hardship. Peyton had tried to convince her repeatedly, but it had been useless.

Flushed

They’d dragged it out until now. Peyton had only just found the right specialists, which was why they were here today.

“Peyton, can you hold my hand?” Wendy asked, tears welling up in her eyes. She looked pitiful. I feel so hopeless every time I see these cold machines…”

Peyton nodded, taking her hand. Together with the doctors, they helped her onto the examination table for an X-ray.

The results came back quickly. The specialists studied her current physical condition carefully, along with her overall state. Her muscles had started to atrophy from years of inactivity and inability to move her legs.

Her condition was quite serious. She wouldn’t recover overnight. It would take immense effort if she ever wanted to walk normally again.

The doctors had looked serious ever since they arrived. Seeing how delicate and resistant Wendy was, they knew she’d be a handful in the days to come.

“Doctor, is there any hope for her to walk again?” Peyton asked anxiously. “If yes, how long will it take? What do I need to do to cooperate?

“I’ll do whatever it takes to help her stand on her own two feet again!”

Peyton wanted to resolve this matter once and for all. The mental burden had been weighing on him for foo long, torturing him daily. He wanted to be free of it.

But the doctor let out a heavy sigh. “Mr. Reed, with current medical technology, it’s not impossible for her to walk again. Miracles do happen. And with the advanced equipment and tools we have here, she can regain mobility.”

“But it all depends on how cooperative your friend is,” the doctor continued. “She resisted even a simple scan just now. She’ll have to endure a lot more pain in the future. Do you think she’ll keep cooperating?”
