“If you truly want her to walk again, we can help,” the doctor said clearly. “But you need to talk her into it. After all, the road ahead is long. It wasn’t easy for us to come here from abroad. I hope everyone will

cooperate.”

The doctor didn’t mince words. It was obvious whether a patient was willing to cooperate. Some people’s eyes lit up with longing for freedom when faced with recovery.

But when he’d looked at Wendy earlier, all he’d seen was resistance. She didn’t seem serious about getting treatment at all.

No matter how many efforts or resources Peyton poured into this, it would mean nothing if she refused to recover. She’d have to cooperate every step of the way. No one could do it for her.

“Don’t worry, doctor. I’ll convince her,” Peyton vowed. “Now that I’ve come to you, I’m determined to see this through.”

He figured if he spent more time with Wendy and said the right things, she might agree to cooperate. He’d even visit her more often if that’s what it took to put her at ease.

“Then it’s settled. I’ll discuss her case with the other doctors and come up with a final treatment plan,” the doctor said. “We’ll get it to you soon, so please be ready to cooperate.”

The specialist was highly professional and efficient.

Peyton felt relieved by his words. After finishing the conversation, he walked out of the consultation room to check on Wendy.

She was sitting alone in her wheelchair, staring out the window, lost in thought.

“Peyton, you’re back,” she said, turning to him. “You talked to the doctor for so long. What did they say? Is my condition really bad? I’m thinking of giving up. I don’t want to endure all that pain and suffering, only to end up with nothing.

“Just because they make me follow all those plans and suffer so much, does that guarantee I’ll walk again?”

She asked blankly, her eyes filled with genuine fear.

On one hand, Wendy wanted Peyton to feel guilty forever. That way, he’d never leave her side.

She’d long given up hope of winning his love. They’d never been together even before Quinn, though she’d once had a chance.

Now that he was engaged, she’d struggled to accept it at first, but had gradually grown used to it. Even so, she refused to give up without a fight.

“Wendy, the specialists said as long as you cooperate with treatment, you will walk again,” Peyton said earnestly. “You’ve always been a beautiful woman. I want your life to be complete. I feel terrible that I’m the reason you’re like this.

“I want to help you stand on your own two feet again. No matter how much it costs or what it takes, I’ll cooperate with them. But I need you to cooperate too. You’re still young. Your life can still be perfect if you

Peyton spoke sincerely, trying his best to convince her. He knew if she could push through the initial difficulty, things would only get easier.

He’d never spoken to her like this before. His words were so heartfelt. They touched Wendy deeply.

Tears welled up in her eyes, warmth spreading through her chest.

If only he could stay by my side and care for me like this forever.

“Peyton, you…”

“Wendy, give yourself a chance to walk again,” he urged, giving her a firm, confident look. “I know you’re strong enough. If you truly want to do something, nothing can stop you. Trust me, and trust yourself.”

“Peyton, I never knew you thought I was strong and capable,” Wendy said, tears streaming down her face. “Your words mean so much to me. I’ll keep up with the rehabilitation-for you!”

“Peyton, I never want to bother you,” she continued softly. “But I’ve been alone at home for years with no friends. I get so lonely. You’re my friend, and the only person I can rely on.

“So sometimes I just want you to be with me. That’s all. As long as you’re by my side, I’m not afraid of anything. Will you come with me to all the rehabilitation sessions from now on?”
