Mia suddenly saw everything clearly. Once she’d come to terms with it all, she realized nothing really mattered anymore.
“Mia, do you really mean that?” Quinn asked. “If you’re sure, then let nature take its course. If you two are destined to be together, he’ll come around eventually.
“I want to tell you not to give up so soon, but I’m afraid it’ll only hold you back if things don’t work out. You’re an amazing girl in my eyes. You deserve someone better.”
Quinn was unusually emotional. She picked up her glass and toasted Mia.
“Thank you, Miss Hart,” Mia said with a smile. “You’re the first person who’s ever said something like that to encourage me. I know you wouldn’t lie to me. I must be pretty good after all. I have great taste in choosing a boss worth trusting for a lifetime.”
Mia meant every word. The two drank together in the restaurant. After Leo left, Mia relaxed significantly, as if she’d truly let go.
By the end of the meal, both were tipsy.
Quinn didn’t feel right letting Mia go home alone. She asked the driver Peyton had sent to drop Mia off first before heading back herself. It was already very late by the time she arrived.
Peyton had been busy with work in the study. He’d felt reassured knowing the driver was waiting outside the restaurant the entire time. He trusted the driver implicitly.
But
But he’d grown worried when the driver mentioned Quinn had been drinking with a young girl. He knew her alcohol tolerance was terrible, and it was so late at night.
As soon as Quinn got home safely, he hurried to open the door and lifted her into his arms.
“Peyton, I’m fine,” she mumbled. “No need to be so dramatic. I only had a little to drink. Why are you making such a fuss?
“Put me down! I can walk on my own. I’m completely sober!”
Quinn hated being carried like this, as if she’d gotten dead drunk. It felt so awkward.
“You know you went drinking tonight,” he said firmly. “I’ll let it slide this time, but it won’t happen again!”
He hated the idea of her drinking. It wasn’t good for her health.
“What’s wrong with having a few drinks?” she protested, pouting. “Mia was in a bad mood, so I wanted to keep her company. We didn’t even drink that much. We aren’t even engaged yet, and you’re already bossing
me around.”
Her fair cheeks were flushed pink from the alcohol, like ripe cherries. It made him want to lean in and kiss
her.
Peyton looked at her, his heart racing uncontrollably.

He carried her to the bedroom, laid her down on the bed, and bent over beside her.
Their eyes met, their gazes full of deep affection.

It was the first time they’d looked at each other so closely since moving in together-their first moment of such intimacy.
Quinn hadn’t fully prepared for this, but now she couldn’t hold back.
Peyton leaned down and kissed her, his lips burning hot. He gently pressed her beneath him, kissing her greedily.
“Peyton, you…” she started to say.
B
But Peyton silenced her with another kiss, his eyes locked on hers.
He’d loved her for so long. It felt like he’d been waiting forever for this moment.
Today, he could finally call her his openly, holding her tightly in his arms.
Quinn closed her eyes instinctively. Under the dim yellow light, they embraced tightly.
Everything felt surreal. When Quinn opened her eyes the next day, it was already noon.,
Her head was still fuzzy. She hadn’t drunk in so long that her body was more resistant to alcohol than usual.
She glanced around. Peyton was no longer at home.
Memories of the night before flooded back, making her cheeks flush.
Even though the alcohol had clouded her judgment a little, her mind had been clear enough to remember everything that had happened.
When she got out of bed, her whole body ached, and even walking felt difficult.
Quinn frowned, forcing herself to stand up.
She’d planned to go to the studio early. Mia was starting her vacation today, and Quinn intended to give her a few extra days off.
She wanted Mia to have time to calm down and relax.
