Chapter 115 No More Waiting

That evening, after finishing her work, Quinn went straight home. When she arrived, she was surprised to find Peyton already there. He never came back this early. Usually, he’d still be working overtime at the company at this hour.

“Peyton, why are you home so early?” she asked. “You’re usually still pulling overtime at the office right now.”

“I have something important to talk to you about, so I came back early on purpose,” he replied.

Something important?

Quinn looked at him, confused.

“Our mothers have set the engagement date,” Peyton said. “Even though we had those issues before, things have stabilized now. I think it’s time to move forward with this.”

He’d been working hard to smooth over the negative news these past few days. He’d also realized this day would come eventually, so he might as well give Quinn the official status she deserved as soon as possible.

Engagement?

“But didn’t you say earlier that things had just settled down?” Quinn asked. “Would getting engaged now affect you? I’m really not in a hurry. Besides, we’re both so busy with work lately. We could put this off a little longer.”

She was only thinking about him. She wasn’t anxious about the engagement at all. Their relationship was stable, and he already made her feel secure.

She was fine with waiting as long as needed.

“No more waiting,” Peyton insisted. “We’ve planned this for too long. It’s already been delayed enough for

me.”

He couldn’t wait any longer. Quinn would never understand how long he’d been wanting to marry her.

He’d dreamed of starting a family with her, being with her openly, and caring for her properly.

Hearing his firm tone, Quinn didn’t argue further. Since he’d made up his mind and both their families cared deeply about this, she didn’t want to stand in the way.

She’d never regretted being with Peyton. At first, she’d thought it was just a family arrangement. After all, she’d already been through one failed relationship. She’d thought she didn’t care about love anymore.

But that wasn’t the case at all.

She’d found someone worth trusting for a lifetime. Without realizing it, she’d grown dependent on him and had truly fallen for him.

It was a subtle feeling, one she hadn’t fully acknowledged yet. But she was in love with him.

No matter what, Quinn was willing to marry him now. She thought about him constantly.

“Quinn, I promise,” Peyton said sincerely. “Whether it’s now or in the future, once I’ve chosen you, I’ll always be responsible for you. No matter what happens, I want you to think of me first. I’ll do everything in my power to protect you.

“I know I still have some loose ends to tie up. Wendy is a problem I haven’t been able to solve yet. But I’m working on it. She’s started rehabilitation now. If by some miracle she can walk again one day, I’ll finally be free of this burden.”

He thought it was better to be honest with her. They were going to start a family together, and being open about these things now would prevent misunderstandings later.

Most importantly, he wanted to give her a sense of security.

“I know,” Quinn replied, her heart warming. Felix had never made such promises to her and never said such heartfelt words.

“You don’t have to worry about the engagement preparations,” Peyton said. “Our mothers will handle everything. They’re really excited about this. They’ve already picked out the venue and decorations.

“They looked so happy planning it, so I figured letting them take charge would be meaningful.”

Peyton had originally planned to handle everything himself, wanting to give his beloved a perfect engagement party. But seeing how joyful their mothers were, he realized letting them do it was a wonderful idea.

He was sure Quinn would agree. If they wanted to handle it, let them.

“Okay, I understand.” Quinn nodded, agreeing.

The thought of their upcoming engagement still felt surreal. It was like a dream. She hadn’t had time to fully process it.

They were still talking when Peyton’s phone rang.

“Peyton, I’m at the rehabilitation center right now,” Wendy’s voice came through, trembling. “It’s already this late, but they won’t let me leave. I didn’t meet today’s training goals, so they’re refusing to let me go home. But I feel so terrible. I really can’t go on anymore.”
